Who here has had success hunting in a cold rain? I am considering going in the morning because I know I won't shoot one from my couch, but the weather is a concern. I have a pop up blind setup but it is still a decent walk from where I park. What say ye?

I have shot a few in a drizzle and seen others but refuse to hunt a rain because of the possiblity of a poor blood trail. Rain will wash the blood away faster than a drizzle and I have had some tracks in good weather that were hard to follow because of sparce blood.

The blood trail can be a concern, yes. But if you know your weapons trajectory, accuracy, history with your bullet choice, etc, you can make the most of it. A high shoulder, spine, neck shot will anchor on the spot. No need for tracking, or very little. I dont mind a mist to a light drizzle, but never had any success in a gullywasher.

There's no good way to say this. After hunting for 30+ years and harvesting a good number of deer, there is no way you will see me in the woods when it's 39 degrees and steady rain is falling. I just go back from running some errands and that's exactly what the conditions are here.
I've said it many times. I have no use for rain gear or a 40ft ladder.

Hunting is supposed to be at least a little bit of fun, and sitting in drizzle and rain just is not the fun I`m looking for.

Maybe light drizzle but steady rain i'm out for several reasons. (Comfort, chance getting sick, poor Blood Trailing etc.). Prefer to have conditions more in my favor. I do not mind hunting in snow though.

I’m waiting until tomorrow; because I don’t feel like dealing with it

I'm glad I came in at 10 this morning. Rain started around 10:30 and been nasty all day. Been looking out and no sighting of deer or much else.

I thought about it, but stayed in bed until the rain started falling. Don't judge me, the wife just got us new fleece sheets! Amazing...

I love putting on my Goretex rain gear and slipping around the deer woods. You can be very quiet and if the wind is right you can get up close and personal with them.

Tracking is sure tough when it's wet...

I love a good drizzle but I hang it up once it starts raining so hard that you can't hear very well. Rain means it is time to abandon the stand and start stillhunting. There is nothing more exciting than a good stillhunt. You do have to be spot on with your shot though because the blood trail will vanish quickly.

Sat it out a few times on stand before and now lost track of how many times in the blind/shooting hut, but I have never even seen the first deer during a rain. Always stayed dry on all of those sits so it's not that, but better things I can be doing besides sitting and watching it rain.

20+ years ago I would do my best to get out in the woods regardless of weather, except for lightening. But anymore, it seems to take less & less to keep me home. Cold & rain & me just don't seem to mix anymore.
Ah, but I remember when.........

Finally made it back to the woods today after a couple weeks of sniffling running nose and just feeling really poopy. I tried out my battery powered Walkers ear protection for the first time today to kinda even the playing field. Turned them up full blast, I can hear a pin drop in Oklahoma (I'm in Indiana). After settling in for a few minutes under a big leafy tree I hear the rain loud and clear, sounds like a heavy hard rain. I look down, pants are dry, jacket is dry, my riffle has a couple small drops of h2O. Remove the Walker's, and it's barely drizzling. I made it till dark with four short spurts of light rain, and the Walkers off my head. So yes I guess I will hunt in a light rain.

I'm young and stupid so I follow the motto "the weather doesn't keep me from going hunting, I keep me from going hunting." There'sa few things I do to keep it fun 1. I still hunt cause why not I've always wanted to get better, and perfect time to practice in the rain 2. I'll bring an umbrealla if I'm going to my stand/blind. It's light easy to pack and it works. You can even get the tree to hold it above you and now you got the next best thing to a roof. 3. I'll hunt from a blind and actually pack real food cause noise and scents travel less in rain. 4. I'll bring headphones because it's raining it's not like I'm gonna hear anything. If I do hear deer that's cause it's 5ft away and I should've already shot it lmao. I see deer in rain, and a plus is you'll likely have the woods to yourself. I'll typically go out unless it's so bad that I'd pull over on the side of the road. A good rule of thumb is if the squirrels aren't moving or making noise then most likely every living thing around you is hunkered down and you should be too so go home.
