Anyone have good experiences with a doe decoy? I have a blind over a cut Bean field and a bucj popped out the other night when I grunted and I think if I would had a decoy it might have made the difference. Thinking about getting one for my rut cation coming up.

Use one every year at this time, usually have a shooter buck check it out.

At one point, I lugged a decoy around. It could be used as a small racked buck, or a doe decoy. Never had anything come close to it. I remember once I had it in a cut corn field, only 20 yards from my ladderstand. It was just before legal shooting time, you know, that time when you can sometimes kind of tell if something`s there, but not really well. I saw a deer, maybe 40 yard out from the decoy, standing there, staring the decoy down, then suddenly, it just disappeared into the darkness and shadows.
I quit messing with the decoy shortly after that, and regretted having spent the money on the thing.

They can be like turkey decoys. Just chunkier to carry around. Sometimes they do the job, other times they cost ya. I've experienced both. Here's a buck I harvested a few years back. He came into the Boss Buck ready to tear his plastic hide off!

Ive gone back and forth about ordering the montana decoys for ease of lugging it around. Everytime im ready to commit, so.ething happens that convinces me I dont really need them.

I don't think anyone really NEEDS them. Just something fun, and sometimes frustrating, to play with.

I have used a buck or a doe decoy. The only down side I have seen from a doe decoy is that in my area the other does freak out! They stomp and snort and head-bob and the like trying to figure out who the new chick is. Bucks....bucks don't care. I like to use a buck decoy in the early rut and a doe decoy later. I put mine out in the cut fields or in a plot where the deer can see them from a great distance and I put a piece or white plastic bag on it to flutter in the wind to create movement. I have pulled deer from 300 yards before. I use an old 3D archery target. I put 1 or 2 ribbons of a bright color on it around the neck and or waist if using in firearms season. When they work they certainly distract the deer. I like putting them where the deer has to walk past me to get to the decoy. I tend to use mine in the same spot and simply toss it in the weeds and cover with some camo burlap. The 2D decoys I have had no luck with. The plastic decoys can be noisy and not very lifelike at times. My foam decoy looks like hell but tends to fool the deer.
