Not having a trigger pull gauge, and being curious about the pull weight on my TC Compass, I removed stock, rested tang on corner of wooden table, and used plastic shopping bag to suspend known weights from trigger.
Results of several checks show pull at about 3.75 lbs.
Am I missing something or should this be fairly accurate?

Jostling the weights into the bag might give a heavier reading to the trigger momentarily than the weight really is and cause it to click.
If you can't find someone with a trigger pull gauge, I'd really think about using a shopping bag to hang from the trigger and not have it drag on the trigger guard, have someone hold a funnel over the empty bag and you trickle dry sand into the bag. When the trigger breaks, weigh the bag and sand. Do that a few times to ensure your measurements are consistent.
I have one of those Lyman digital trigger pull gauges and it's interesting to see how you apply pressure to the trigger will change the reading.
Where you located at? I'm near Plymouth, Indiana, but I have to make a trip to Brook, Indiana the early part of the week. If you are near the route, maybe we could meet and I could check it for ya.

I appreciate your feedback, and your gracious offer. I'll likely be buying a trigger pull gauge, I was just curious as to whether or not using this method would be close to accurate. I actually started with a 3 lb. weight and added jacketed bullets until the trigger tripped. It did break at the same point each of the three times that I tried it. I'm located in New Castle; if your ever in the neighborhood give me a holler.

I'll do that. I am satisfied with the Lyman Digital gauge I have, it's been trouble free for about 8-10 years now. I just remove the battery when I'm done using it. Lyman gauge

A fish weighing scale might do the trick.

A fish weighing scale might do the trick. I have a luggage scale that I bought for making primitive bows, and it is fairly accurate. I really believe that this plastic bag method is in the ball park. I just replaced my trigger spring, and it breaks consistently with a 3 lb. weight in the bag. With stock removed and tang resting on the corner of a desk, the bag hangs straight without touching anything. I just might start selling "Trigger Weight Bags" with printed instructions on ebay!!

The nice thing about the digital trigger pull gauge I have is that it stays at the weight that the trigger breaks at until I reset it. So, no guessing, and it reads within 1/2 oz. I will check a trigger 1/2 dzn times to see how repeatable it is.

I know that the "bag" method isn't precise, but it seems pretty consistent. It'll be interesting to see how close to 3 lbs. the actual breaking point is.
