UCBK Membership
The UCBK....United Crossbow Hunters of Kentucky....needs your asistance.
Throughout the process of establishing a expanded crossbow season the UCBK was formed last year and is a legitament organization made up of members in Kentucky and of other states. Our recruitment period last year was primarily directed toward enough membership to be recognized by the LKS(League of Kentucky Sportsmen) as a member club. This allows us to have two delegates at the annual LKS convention to vote on issues that face sportsmen of the Commonwealth.
When we reached our target membership goal during this time the UCBK began focusing our attention on the issue at hand and put recruitment efforts on the backburner until a expanded season was finalized. During this time we have had representation at the KDF&WR Commission Meetings and was represented at the final Crossbow Advisory Panel meeting. Our instate members had direct input in the drafting of a compromise proposal offered at this meeting...unfortunately rejected. We have established good communications with the KDF&WR and the District Commissioners. At the December 9... KDF&WR Commission Meeting the Expanded Use of Crossbows throughout archery season was passed unopposed by the District Commissioners.
This brings us to the present state of affairs .....we are at a threshold of getting the proposed season established and final approval by the Legislative Review Commission (LRC) but we need your help.
1. We need members.......you can join the UCBK. Our membership dues are just $10.00 which not only gives membership to the UCBK but with the LKS as well. Members receive the LKS newspaper. Originally the members also received "Kentucky Afield Magazine" but at this time it is unavailable. Hopefully something can be worked out at a later date.
Although we cannot guarantee the expanded crossbow season.....we need to increase our numbers to provide additional support to the expanded season as its reviewed by the LRC. If your interested in joining or have questions you can give me a PM(private message) here and I'll give you the information on how to join.
2. You can also asist us by contacting the KDF&WR or your District KDF&WR Commissioner and urge them to stay involved with the proposed expanded crossbow season as well as show support for it. A phone call or e-mail will provide more asistance than you realize. There is contact info posted on the KDF&WR website.
3. Contact the LRC members or your local legislators and let them know you support this or other pieces of legislation affecting sportsmen of this state.
Please consider doing... one or all... the things I mentioned. The more support we have the better. We will also post other contact info at a later date that will be extremly important that you get your input on. Lets work together to get this settled and hopefully we will be enjoying the expanded opportunity this fall.
