I have hunted with a compound for 20+ years, & am entertaining the thought of purchasing my first crossbow.
I stopped by Gander Mountain yesterday & looked at Horton & Ten-Point crossbows on display.
What are your thoughts, pro & con on these 2 models for a first-time crossbow buyer? There is a considerable price difference & design differences. If I purchase one I want it to be dependable, and not a nightmare to use & maintain. I do not want a low-end bow, nor do I want a top-of-the line bow either.
Thank you in advance for any assistance in this matter.

If you want a compound crossbow you can get a TenPoint Titan completely set up ready to go shooting and hunting for $499.
That would be the way I would go.

I have watched several people shoot the Ten-point cross bows at the Outdoorsman sport shop in Greenwood and I can't say those guys were very accurate with their bows based on the groups they were shooting. But one thing is for certain those Ten-point crossbows are very loud when fired. The noise turned me off from considering them.

No doubt that shooting a crossbow off hand is not near as accurate as shooting a compund bow. Rest it and that TenPOint will stack arrows on top of each other. So it is not the bow, it is the shooter. I would dare not shoot the same bullseye at any yardage with my TenPoint or my Excalibur from a rest. At 8 bucks an arrow I would be spending some major dollars. No getting around it a crossbow (any crossbow) is loud. I have found that noise in magnified quite bit at an indoors range.

I was just getting ready to say.....ALL crossbows are loud!
It's VERY unlikely you would get a second shot anyway, if your shooting within a reasonable yardage (out to 30)....the deer won't have a chance to jump the string.
