Been set up here about 45 mins or so. Filled the feeder and swapped cards. Got one of the biggest 6 points I've ever seen on camera. I'll try to post pics later. I'm doe only here in Ohio and cameras are showing 4 to 5 buck pics to every doe pic.

One of the last times I hunted there, my truck got rear ended and totalled out. It's also where I took my biggest buck. So lots of memories, both good and bad! Off to the races now! I remember that truck sure got hit hard

Well, when I got to the new property I hadn't gotten to the barn yet when the phone rings. It's the owner and he wanted to know if that was me in the driveway. He said that there was a doe by the pond and she was looking at the truck, and that I should back up, go around, sneak out and get her. He no sooner finished saying that when she ran off. So I just continue to the barn, get out and start getting dressed. He meets me there and we discuss my plans for the evening hunt, and he tells me about the Yellow Perch he was catching in the pond when the doe walked out. The evening hunts plans change a few times (complicated because of the direction the wind is blowing) but I think I have a possible plan worked out. Instead of going and setting up the pop-up blind today I'll just go to the end of a strip of pines and set up in a chair there with a set of shooting sticks. I can watch one side of the pond (180 yds) and down the edge of a chiseled corn field (300 yds to the property line). The wind will make any shots tricky, but doable if I do my job. I get comfy out of most of the wind behind a large pine tree, get out the binoculars and rangefinder, spray all around me with acorn scent and wait. @ 3:30 a client calls and is telling me about how good the fishing was today in his pond and sends me a picture of a Yellow Perch that is as long as his size 12 shoe, then he finds out that I was hunting and apologizes for calling, I tell him it's no bother, the shots here will be long and he's not bothering me at all. With the wind there's no way the deer can hear me talking to him, and if any come out I have plenty of time to hang up and get ready to shoot. We hang up at 4 pm, and in a few minutes I notice a few shapes at the end of the pines starting to filter out in the chiseled field. 1 deer just keeps walking North, the other 4 just mill around trying to find something to eat. Then 4 more come out. They look towards me but don't seem bothered. I grab the rangefinder, 275 yds. I watch them for about 15 minutes debating whether to shoot or not (thinking about the wind and bullet drift) and then one of the bigger ones starts to walk towards me. So I wait. Com on honey, walk this ways as far as you want. She gets to 195 yds and stays there for a bit, finally turning broadside. Let out half a breath, squeeze, BOOM! All the deer run off, I grab the binoculars and I was wrong, all didn't run off, the one I shot at is laying there.
I reload, and walk down there to make sure she's dead. As I'm walking back to the chair the owner drives up in the ATV. We go get her and load her into the truck. She's bigger than what she looks like in the picture, that grass hasn't been cut for months and it's 9" -10" long. She takes up the width of the PU truck bed.
When I field dress her she's got at least an inch of yellow fat all over her, she's been eating a lot of corn I think. I found out why she dropped so quick, the heart wasn't damaged, but it just wasn't connected to any arteries or veins any more, the 195g Barnes made short work of all those connections.
I'll go back tomorrow and set up the pop up blind then get outta dodge, the wind tomorrow is completely wrong for hunting there - blowing scent from me to the bedding area. I can't set up on the opposite side or I'd be shooting towards the house/barn.
Congrats on the freezer stuffer

So do you unload every night most times I’ll just pull the primer out and leave the powder in along with the round No I will not reload every night. If I do reload it will be because I had it in the rain. And leave your gun in the garage car or barn. Never bring it back inside the house After hunting and it’s still loaded. I don’t take my gun in but I just pull the primer every night I’ve left the round and pellets in for over a week if not longer I’ve never seen any pitting in my barrel or had any issues as far as being accurate with it

I'm no expert when it comes to ML's, so to see all the feed back on that topic is awesome. In my opinion, just saying, I only hunt the weekends since I work M-F so I load mine Friday evening and unload it on Sunday evening wether I shoot it or not. I pay very close attention to the breech plug. I put it in a cup of hot water and let it soak, then I use a nipple pick followed up with thread and a needle and slide the breech plug back and forth while using hot water. Call it overkill, but I'm really partial for my extremities so I don't want it blowing up in my face. Now granted, these new ML's are a lot better than the old ML's where you have to shower with them and hope it doesn't blow up.

I loaded my Knight Disc Extreme the night before opening morning of muzzleloader, and I`ll hunt with that same load until I finally fire it at a deer. Even if it`s last day of muzzleloader. I do leave it in the unheated garage so it doesn`t condensate.

I shoot one round, load it and won’t touch it until I am done. I also leave it in the cold. Never had any problems.

Blanked tonight. Place is a swamp and most is flooded. Lots of sign so may try again. Never heard a single shot, but the surrounding area is growing up and busy with traffic. If you like peace and quiet, go elsewhere!

Back from the ranch for the last time and ......no joy Another day full of crazy full moon, cattle everywhere you don't want them and no fresh sign. It was a cold beginning (+-15f) but warmed up to about 40 and was clear and sunny. The first pic is of the "moon set" this morning, then the sunrise, then the view to the west from the high spot on the ranch (very clear today) and finally a "friend" that sat there and stared at me for about 20 minutes Tag soup for me on this one but at least I did get to hunt. flic.kr/p/2hYf9YTflic.kr/p/2hYe3Wdflic.kr/p/2hYbyrtflic.kr/p/2hYe3Up

I'm done for the year. I have to go through a neighborhood and then cross 200 yards of disturbed ground to get to the woods. I need it to be either dry or frozen. Wet and warm this weekend.
My mental switch will flip the day after Christmas and I will anxiously await good fishing weather.

I never wanted to get into muzzleloading because of the cleaning requirements. That all changed in 2002 when I bought my first Savage Muzzleloader where I could use regular rifle powder in it. I'll shoot it before season and leave it dirty until season ends. I have even left it dirty and loaded from Dec to Oct to see if leaving it loaded for a long period of time would change the POI. It didn't, at least not enough at 100 yds to matter to a deer.
Going out today to set up a pop-up blind to allow me to hunt out of the wet weather the next 9 days when needed. Still need to whack a couple to keep the one farmer happy, and will be out this evening. For the rest of the season I need to balance hunting, work and projects around the house, or at least until I'm tagged out. After muzzleloading season is over I'm done, even if I'm not tagged out.

I plan to go out Christmas week. I'm off and need to tag an Indiana doe or buck for the team. MY Ohio doe was small and could use a little more meat in the freezer. I think a late born fawn from last year.
