Well, I just got home from helping son & his buddy check their ladder stands. 2 out of 5 missing. Went ahead and touched up shooting lanes and double checked ratchet straps and hardware/tampering . This is on 67 acres. Lots of hunters on bordering properties. Boys were disappointed, I could tell. I'm in the market for a couple or 3 cheap ladder stands if anyone knows of any for sale.

Too bad. Sorry to hear it. Seems like everybody goes thru this eventually. Makes you sick.
I wait for clearance bargains, or make my own stands. Good luck.

Yep, been hit before on public land myself. Just sad when thieves hit 2 young men who struggle with everyday bills. I'll keep searching for a couple used or deals at Rural King.

Bummer...
Only thing worse is to walk into your stand on opening day to hunt and it’s gone.. BTDT..
Going to be pretty tough to find used ladder stands for a decent price this time of the year. Good luck..

What is the date to start putting stands on public ground? I know the removal date is sometime in January. I also know the DNR removes several every year that are left past their time

From knowing what material and labor is to build one, any 15' or taller ladder stand under $100 is a steal.

Thanks for all replies. Forgotten that Menards carries them. These have been setup for 2 years with the exception of 1 setup last fall.

Muzzle, that's a definite on public land. You would think on private land that wouldn't be the case. Sad things have changed since I started hunting 36 years ago.

Did another thorough walk thru of property in search of stands-still both missing. Did find what appears to be an aluminum fixed stand. Was told by property owner (sons friend) that his dad put that up about 12 years ago and thought it was a Loggy Bayou. The trees bark has grown up around lock on chain or cable-couldn't see which it was. My question is, do you think with replacing support cables w/new chains and any bolts, that this would be salvageable? Do aluminum welds corrode? Do they weaken when exposed to elements? Not worth chancing?

Besides Craigslist is full of STOLEN STANDS for sale and some are real cheap.

Bloomington area I really appreciate the offer. I think the guys are fond of ladder stands-so I'm still in the market for 2 basic ladder stands. I will contact you if need be. Again, thank you for your generous offer.

Again, thank you for your generous offer. That’s the direction I am going any more so I can understand that. The offer still stands if you’re up for it. Sorry to hear about your misfortune. When I solely hunted public, I would use hang on stands and have the climbing straps. Would take the bottom two with me and never lost any stands. It certainly won’t stop a dedicated thief, but it will likely stop the opportunist.
