Now, I know that the property will bounce back and everything will be fine. Do you think this is too close to hunting season? Will my spot be shot?

The bucks right now are spiting up out of their bachelor groups. If they finish up this week maybe, next week might be too late. My brothers did his in August of 2013 and there where so many tree tops and branches you could not walk the area. Stopped the deer for one year. I found the zig zag paths the next year, but not much deer signs. Now its awesome. It's so thick that it's hard to hunt inside the area, but the area just outside all great. Deer moving from one area to the other area. Huge bed areas. Out of the 101 acres there are 3 heavy timbered areas and it covers about 50% of the acres. 2 of the 3 where hard to hunt and one had a good logger path to hunt stands on. Seemed okay. The few timbered areas just outside of the 2 heavy timbered area are awesome. The deer move back and forth between the two.

If they're done and out at least a couple weeks before you plan on hunting it, you ought to be fine.
One of my old spots, the neighbor had his logged gradually throughout the fall/winter, just as the logger had time/etc. It sucked all year that year with the constant, sporadic disturbance.

Sounds like they will be done logging this weekend. I will be only hunting gun and muzzleloader too. I now have hope!

The first year my son went with me we got to the woods to find a pile of logs at the road. They had finished dragging logs out the Friday before gun season opening. We sat on the ground in a treetop, saw tons of squirrels, a fox, and killed a small 8 point buck. I thought is was a great day with an 8 year old.
The only thing that is certain about deer hunting is nothing is certain.

Had the same issue last year. Even had loggers start cutting trees around me few hrs after I set up. I had cameras up and it showed deer were still in the area but nothing to go ga ga for.

Tops still with growth and oaks with acorns. DEER WILL FLOCK to freshly cut timber esp. if growing and not dormant. The tops will not only provide browse but security cover... Would not bother me one bit.

My brother's place was logged before the acorns where developed so no deer bonanza happened. This might be huge early season bonus if lumbering ends soon. It will take a couple weeks for the deer to come back and feel save.

It depends on the area and the deer population. It could be fine. Also, depends on how they do the skid trails etc. There isnt any absolute answer.

The does will return fairly quickly. The property is still their home and unless the safety is simply gone...they will return. When my place was logged we would find fresh tracks on a daily basis during the logging process. Bucks will take longer so it may affect your early season buck hunting, but the bucks will still come looking for the girls when the time comes. Simply expect things to change and scout and be prepared to improvise or change your plans. Tracks, rubs, scrapes, signs of browsing and your observations will guide you. I suspect your hunting will improve as the season progresses. I say this because I assume any sizable mast trees are probably gone now, but you also have a lot of browse at deer level as well. So as the acorns dry up and the crop fields are harvested....that browse supply could work to your advantage. Good luck.

I agree with Freedomhunter. I have hunted the same property for a little over 20 years. In that time it has been logged twice, both times during hunting season. The first time it was logged (early 2000's) the population density was much higher and the logging seemed to have very little affect on the hunting. If anything, the hunting seemed to get better because of all the additional cover I assume. However, the last time it was logged (2 years ago), it seemed to really hurt the hunting. As we all know, in most areas, the population density is not even close to what it was in the early 2000's. The only way you'll know is to put your time in and see what happens. Like I always tell my hunting buddies, you won't know if you don't go.

My brother's was year after the ugly 2012 EHD. My bet the deer will come back or like jbird stated, the does will. If does then the bucks will show up.

Are they select cutting or clear-cutting?? Select cutting. They are done and outta there now. My appendix ruptured recently and I had emergency surgery and lots of complications so I haven't been able to go check it out yet. Hopefully in a few weeks I can survey the damage and report back.

First prayers for healing! Second, select cutting or even aggressive select cutting in my world is not called "damage". It is one of the most glorious things in habitat management. Opening canopy is a glorious thing!
