I'm headed north next week. Has anyone fished Hamlin Lake at the State Park? I'm not seriously fishing, will probably rent a canoe and mess around a bit. Any words of advice?

Four people have drowned this past week between Ludington's lake front and Hamlin lake. While fishing on Thursday and Friday we had helicopters and all sorts of search boats near us looking for the latest victim. Lake Hamlin is way above record highs and so they had to open the dam for the first time ever to try and get the lake back down, this is causing unexpected currents which has cause some of the drownings. Also Lake Michigan waters have been very unpredictable and are also at record highs.

Saw on the news that so far this year, 21 people have drowned in Lake Michigan. Yikes!
