The other Caplingers Seafood thread brings me to ask this question. Is there anywhere in Northern Indiana that has good fresh (not previously frozen) seafood? I'm talking fish market type, not already cooked. I was spoiled living on the West Coast 10 miles from the ocean. I used to go out and catch my own Yellowfin/Bluefin Tuna, Wahoo, and Dorado. I had a neighbor that was a diver and we'd do trades for live lobster when it was in season. I can get live shrimp locally, www.hoosiershrimpfarm.com. But for anything else I'm kinda stuck getting something previously frozen. And no, I'm NOT driving into Chicago. I try to stay away as much as possible.

When it comes to ocean seafood or seafood from other countries I prefer frozen because that usually means the fish or what ever was caught and processed immediately, when you buy fresh you have no idea how long that product has been dead and laying around on ice. Meijer stores obtain their Yellow Lake Perch and Walleye from a fishery in Kingsville, Ontario which is on Lake Erie, these fish must be in a Meijer store within 3 days or less from the time it was removed from the net. It you ask the Meijer's fish/meat person when the fish you are interested in arrived they can give you that date.
Watched a special one time about huge ships that stay at sea for months fish netting Pollack,as soon as the nets come aboard large around the clock crews begin the processing, they use everything from the meat which is frozen within hours to the remains which are ground up and used for fertilizer.
These ships remain at sea and are restocked when they are off loaded on a weekly basis, they have a full staff from cooks to doctors on board. These ships are basically a fishing factory at sea.
BTW: This companies largest customer was Mc Donalds those fish left that ship already packaged frozen in Mc Donald's cases.

Thanks Featherduster. Yellow Perch, Bluegill, Redear Sunfish, Hybrid Bluegill, Hybrid Striped Bass, Largemouth/Smallmouth Bass and in the cool months Rainbow Trout I can all get less than 100 yds from the door of the house. Bluefin Tuna & Wahoo aren't that easy to come by in the back yard. Dang, now I'm getting a taste for some fresh Scallops and Oysters providing they are in season.
Maybe in a few years the Walleye I put in the pond might be big enough to eat providing they survived predation.

Fresh not frozen seafood in Indiana is going to be hard to come by, however there are many places online that will overnight ship to you. We've had live lobsters delivered on a couple occasions for a party.
If you can tolerate frozen, Sams Club typically has great jumbo crab legs.

Shellfish I can do frozen, not sure about Lobster, but fish at least to me should be not frozen or flash froze and vac packed.
