I read about this and the defendants got what they deserved. The amount of dirt and rocks they took off a nature preserve and trees to move to their adjoining land on which they were building a home were criminal serve serving acts.

Whoever told them the tree would live must have a serious drug problem. Those folks have more money than sense. Did they get tax breaks for their Conservation easement?

It appears to me that they knowingly broke the law.
Yes, whoever had the illusion that any trees involved in this process would live is an idiot. Being in construction, I've witnessed too many times what disturbing soil around trees will do. In most situations, you are better off to remove the trees and plant new ones once work is complete.
Did anyone else catch the story about the great state of IL wanting to impose a $1000 annual surcharge on electric car owners? And they want to raise the gas tax .19/gallon AND double drivers license fees. It continues to amuse me that the big liberal states always think they can tax their problems away.
