In preparation for my elk hunting trip this fall I joined a weight loss competition. First prize is $500. I've already won $175 in weekly gift cards. The contest started on January 5th. My starting weight was 274.8 lbs. The final weigh in is tomorrow morning. I set a pretty hard to reach goal for myself. I'm happy with what I've been able to do through eating better and exercising a lot.
I'll post my final weight tomorrow. I probably won't know the official results until Monday afternoon. I'll post that too.
I plan on sticking with my routine and keeping my weight in check.

I always find it easier to stay motivated if I have something to look to, like your elk hunt. It's easy to put it off until you've got a certain date on the calendar you need to be fit by. I've gone anywhere from 220-280 pounds, you really feel that extra weight after a few days slogging up/down the mountains.

My goal was to hit 200 lbs by the end of the contest. My final weight was 190.4 lbs. That is 84.4 lbs lost since Jan. 5th. I averaged 6 lbs lost per week. I lost 30.7% of my original weight. I was barely fitting into size 42" waist pants and wearing 2x and 3x shirts. Now I'm wearing 34" waist pants and wearing Large and 1x shirts. I quit using a CPAP machine at night. My heart issues have become much better also. My cardiologist is very happy with the weight loss.
I have so much more energy now. I can work outside all day and not get tired or have pain in my knees. I would like to lose another 15 lbs and then start lifting weights and adding muscle.

What was your biggest hurdle?

What was your biggest hurdle? I didn't really have any big hurdles I guess. Once I got used to eating smaller meals it went really smooth. That took a week or two. I still ate a small amount of M&M's every night to get my chocolate fix. It was just a lot of hard work and sticking to it every day.

That's amazing! Now be sure and keep it off! Maybe that just means you have to go elk hunting every year..

Congratulation!!! Did you just cut back on the size of the meals you ate? Please tell us how you did this. I'm very impressed. I have been trying to lose weight and I'm not having much luck. I try to cut back but it seems like I'm hungry all the time. What type of exercises did you do? I went mushroom hunting today and I just couldn't do it like I could just a few years ago. I used to go from sun up to sun down. Today I barely made it an hour. Spoil banks like to killed me today. I weigh around 260lbs and would love to get down to 200.
