From the article...
Bowhunting is on the Rise Firearms (rifle/shotgun) hunters accounted for 66 percent of the total deer harvest. Archers took 23 percent of the total harvest, and this statistic has grown from 15 percent in 2000.
A couple of questions...
I wonder if the uptick in the archery harvest is due to crossbow inclusion?
If firearms hunters account for 66% of the harvest and archery hunters account for 23% of the harvest, how were the remaining 11% taken as 66% and 23% only accounts for 89% of the harvest?

Quit using crossbow and bow the last couple years. Just always to warm out. Don’t enjoy it as much anymore.
Looked back in history of CheckIN and I don’t shoot until December.

Interesting; I’m just the opposite. I find I enjoy October the most

Perhaps, but I would of thought that would have been included in the firearms numbers. I can't read the report right now, but just in the description of firearms it say shotguns and rifles. Tim wells is a bow hunter and on his show he uses a spear and blow gun. So maybe that could answer for the 11%. But then that would seem really high.

I read in the Ohio crossbow was up every year and bow stayed the same or little decrease. Need to check again. I think Indiana is about the same.

The older I get the more I like October and the less I like December.
One of the plans this year is to build a small insulated shed that will act as a cooler to hold deer. I have a HVAC buddy that knows how to modify a window A/C unit to cool it down to the upper 30°F range.

I haven't kept abreast of those harvest stats but I do know back when I was active in getting full inclusion for crossbows in Indiana both the Ohio crossbow and vertical bow harvest was setting harvest records every year.
