My enthusiasm for cutting firewood has been waning. We burn in the house and garage. My garage is uninsulated so it takes a ton to keep it warm. Almost not worth the effort. Looking for a better mousetrap. I make my own stoves, (except the house). My latest creation is an old air compressor tank. Its 30" wide by 6' tall. Made out of 1/4" metal, it was a no brainer for me to incorporate its use into heating with the potential output it holds. I have been researching waste oil burning. I am a mechanic in the trucking industry, and have access to used motor oil. We have 9k gallon on hand, and authorization to take whatever I want. So, the wheels have been turning and I came up with a plan. Started here. Wood. Made natural draft oil burner. Found out it couldnt breathe enough in dirty air. So moved it to outside stove. Works good but not quite enough heat output. The delivery system. Went a different route with forced air. Now flames hot like a forge! Using a fan for air delivery thru a hose. Copper tube runs thru pipe down to a stainless bowl. A needle valve regulates the oil flow. Happy with the output, I welded in some heat transfer tubes. Then framed in a shroud to hold a box fan for air delivery. Cant beat that for free heat!

I think you need to paint the furnace in the garage yellow and blue and add a mouth and a couple more strategically placed pipes in the upper heat exchanger pipes you have in place now. AND add a mouth... LOL

Insulating my shop was the best thing I did after I built my wood burner, especially the roof. Went from feeding it hourly to just two or three times a day depending on how cold it is outside.

I completely agree. I'd bet deadeer could insulate the roof with R-13 single faced for under $300, maybe under $275. Then put a layer of visqueen vapor barrier over that.
