Wal-Mart in West Lafayette has $35 Ameristep climbers. I am sure they are not the best but at $35 if you need one they may be worth a look. I do believe they are 35 lbs also which is much heavier than my 17 lb Summitt.
Maybe they are selling them $1 a lb. ;D
As of Noon today they had 9 of them.

The Wal-Mart in Angola HAD them last week as well. I bought one. They're pretty nice. They're cable climbers and look very sturdy. They are steel, though, and they are heavy.

I have an Ameristep Prarie Falcon that I got at the end of the season last year at Sportsman's Guide for $45 , it only weighs 21 lbs. , I'd shop around some more . Wally World will continue to carry those overweight models only as long as folks buy them instead of asking for something better , and they can order lighter models if you ask . Check their website too , sometimes they have clearance items that the retails stores don't and you may even be able to have it shipped directly to the local store and possibly save on shipping .

just wondering, do you think a child (11yrs old) would be ok in a climber next to me?

just wondering, do you think a child (11yrs old) would be ok in a climber next to me? I've seen 11 year olds that I am not sure would be ok sitting on my lap deer hunting. But I also have a nephew that is 11 and he has hunted with me for several years. I would, without a doubt, feel comfortable with him sitting in a stand next to me. Guess it just depends on the amount experience and maturity of the kid.

A fella gave me one of those last summer...tried it once and gave it away. The way its designed it was impossible to climb a tree without extreme effort, the cable was at an odd angle and always grabbing the tree when you climbed up or down. Tried different size trees, didnt matter, didnt like.
