Cummins, Inc. turns 100 this year! As the company that put diesel on the map for the last century, it's now looking to electric engines for the future. bit.ly/2H6waZr

I caught the tail end of a program about Clessie Cummins on PBS last week. I imagine they will rerun it at some point. Clessie Cummins

I watched the show last night (DVR). Interesting points I saw. Only had an 8th grade education, only car EVER to run the Indy 500, complete the race and NEVER stop the entire time (finished 13th or 17th). They also drove the car from Columbus to the track and back daily for testing, qualifying and on race day. He also invented the "jake-Brake".
My wife grew up in Columbus and I work in Columbus...

Cummins is Columbus. Great company from what I’ve heard. I helped lay some stone on the front of one of the buildings there in town. Never drove a Cummins but from what I hear they’re pretty dang good.

Tuesday I was visiting a friend in KY. His wife drives a Nissan Titan with a 5.6L Cummins diesel engine. I had no idea that Cummins engines were in other non commercial vehicles than Dodge. Nice looking truck with so so reviews. That isn't on Cummins. That is on Nissan for building a "tweener" as in between a light duty truck and a heavy duty truck but with the comparable power of a light duty insofar as hauling. Just what I read.

I looked at one of the new Titans before I bought my current truck. They looked like decent trucks, I just didn't like the design of the interior. The truck I sold was a Ram 2500 and the Titan's turning radius was bigger than the Ram due to the front end of the Titan. Supposedly the Titan has the same heavy duty front end as the bigger Nissan delivery vehicles.

Yes...Cummins IS Columbus. You can barely throw a rock and not hit one of their buildings. Never worked for them, but lots of folks in Columbus and surrounding area that does. I know they make some smaller "light vehicle" stuff all the way to large power generation stuff... hard to think of how it all started in a garage and an idea to build an engine that ran on some other fuel than gasoline (because gasoline could be difficult to find back in the day while kerosene was very easy to find).
