That really runs the gamut. It depends on how high you want then and probably the most influential part is what they are made of. Little more info about what you are wanting to make it out of.

Installation was pretty easy. Took between 1 and 2 hours to lay it out, then I used a tractor with a 3 point auger to drill the holes.. I went back the next day and planted the arborvitae trees in the holes, and watered them. 2 alternate rows, 5' apart, 5' spacing in the rows. By keeping them trimmed, I can make the fence as tall as I need it.

You could plant multiflora rose or rasberries between the 2 rows. Cheapest I think would be doing like they do around some junk yards. Metal siding/roofing vertical on a wood backbone. Not pretty tho.
