Two questions… Have you ever hunted a treestand like this? Would you hunt a treestand like this?

Reminds me of a tree house I had when I was 11 or 12. Ditto on schall's comments

Same, all the climbers/hang-ons etc where not that much available and was I was an empty wallet guy. Could not afford it and I could always find some wood and nails. Next time down my brothers place i will take a picture of my 1983 home made ladder stand. Took a 13 pointer back in 1985 on that stand.

It's amazing the things we used to do...my first climber was a Baker death 4000 model. Even in an uneventful hunt you could expect some serious chest and arms rash from hugging the tree.
And yes...I've hunted from stands just like the one pictured and would never, ever do it again.

I've never hunted out of a home made stand, but I did spend quite a bit of time on a baker and it was flat out dangerous...

Yes and no. Still have some old wooden skeletons on one farm. Took all the steps from 5 foot down off. Have 2 homemade bakers in the pole barn.

Yes!! And a lot higher. Had 2 that were 30 feet up. I was a poor hunter and cabbaged pallet wood from work. Got pole barn nails(8 in) and would go to work. We had at least 11 of them. Some were big and some not so much. Always wore a safety belt and went to ea h and checked steps and stand for stability each year. Had to re do about 1 a year and replace some boards on some others. Killed a lot of deer from them and would hunt them again only if I built them. Not much different than a kids tree house. Just be diligent on mantanace and over build them.

Those steps just look like a good place for an accident. I hunted out of a few cobbled together stands. I felt safer using my home made Baker like climber. I made a ladder stand out of treated wood that was rock solid. Worked great for years. I can still remember using the neighbors wooden ladder to change out storm windows and screens on our old 2 story house. 20 feet up on a ladder that bounced and sagged with every step. That scared me more than some of the tree stands I have up in.

Remember those square wing nuts to hold the bolts on? How long did it take you to paint those orange so you could find them after you dropped em in the leaves

Any other "older guys" remember when we built those in September and a 10 footer was way up there? I do!

I had an old Baker, the two piece(still got it) I did not like climbing with it so I would go out befor season find where I wanted it and climb up. I took a rope ladder with me and would hang it over the front and climb down(usually 20 feet) then when I wanted to hunt there I would climb the rope ladder hunt and climb down. Now I have problems climbing a step ladder. Lol Baker has been relegated to the antique collection. I think I got my baker in 1979. 39 years ago. WOW

Yes I have hunted in them. And some much worse. I still have 2 of the Baker death machines in the barn. But now I'm well past those days and glad to have survived them. No plan on going back.

Man there’s lots of silly things I’ve done even after I told myself I wouldn’t.

I'd sooner try to climb a flagpole than that contraption.

That looks a little sketchy. However, i hunt from stands I built all the time. Sitting in one now. But, I overbuilt and its sturdy. Built one for my brother in law too and he shot a real nice 10 pointer from it.
