Opening Weekend of Deer Firearms season did not end up with a deer in the truck, but we all saw a ridiculous amount of turkey. When Fall Turkey comes back in during December, I'm going to have to pick up a license. Here's a video of my deer hunting sit from this past Sunday morning. I counted 22 hens that paraded by my stand for over 5 minutes. youtu.be/d2rMi2yvvRMI'm pretty new to turkey hunting and have only done it in the spring previously. Is it common for hens to heard up like this without any toms/jakes in the fall/winter?

From what I have seen, females flock up separate from the males.
Dad just had 20 jakes and toms file by him today.

I've seen a flock of hens parade in the fall while deer hunting it was only 10-12 but they cut a wide circle around me. Pretty wild.
Another time my grandpa and I seen about 30-40 turkeys in a group fly past us from a ridge top to ridge top. Theyve never been in the same places come spring. This last Black Friday I heard some hens being pretty noisy in a tree yelping back and forth about 60yds away from my spot and about half hour after first light they flew down stayed noisy all the way up to 8am, 8:30 I shot my buck. Needless to say they weren't around when I went back and hunted Sunday morning.
