Up until a few years ago I never knew how deadly rabies was. My wife got bit by a feral cat and got the vaccine to be safe. If I remember right there is only a couple cases of someone who survived having rabies without the vaccine.
For any of the people who haven't had it in a while it's no longer shots in the stomach. It's a series of shots in the arm now.

My daughter has a weird sense of humor. She finds it too funny that edgar Allen Poe died of rabies.
Kind of fitting for his style

If I remember right there is only a couple cases of someone who survived having rabies without the vaccine. For any of the people who haven't had it in a while it's no longer shots in the stomach. It's a series of shots in the arm now. Several years back I was cutting my back yard when something swopped down and smacked me on my head. I did not think much about it until I showered that evening. The top of my head stung. I asked my wife to look at it and she said "something it you". We do have occasional bats around here and since it was starting to get dark that popped into my mind that it was a bat. The more I thought about it the more I did not like it and went to ER the next day. I'm not a chance taker, especially on a 100% fatal disease, so I opted for the shots. It was a series of shots over about a 3 week span. A couple in the buttocks and the rest in the arm. Not bad....

I don't touch them. We had one laying on the ground at work a couple of weeks ago. I took a picture of this one last week at a friends cabin.

I've had an on going feud with the s at my house for years. We have two louvered vents on the front of the house with screen backing. Perfect for bat roosting. All they do is crap all over the house. Anyone who wants to preach about the benefits of having bats around can have them. After years of aggravation and research I found that they hate fiberglass insulation. I purchased a long extension pole and grabbed some leftover insulation at work. It took awhile and several beers, but I was able to stuff small pieces of fiberglass between the louvers. The bats fled a few at a time and haven't been back since. If you spot them anywhere in or on your home, start the eradication process immediately or it will just get progressively worse.

I think I would take the guano over the mosquitoes.
