Seriously itching to take a day (tomorrow) to hit the woods. I'll be tied starting on Friday and for the next week and half with travel/work obligations so trying to decide if i should scratch this itch or just save the PTO for later. My hang up is with the full moon lighting up the night these past few nights. Am i being too hopeful with day time movement/ sightings? I'm hunting public so that's already a crap shoot. Thoughts and advice from your past experiences appreciated. Thanks.

In all the time I`ve deer hunted, hunting during the full moon has always been frustrating, and it seems like I see much fewer deer during those hunts. I`ve never figured this out. I`ve read that deer activity during daylight ought to be heavier than at fisrt and last light, but I have not seen this either.

Season is way to short to question weather to hunt or not, hunt every chance you can besides that's what they make sick days for.

Last year I killed the biggest dear of my life 5 minutes before shooting light was up...it was the night of the "Super Moon" during gun season. I know it's a different time of season and I'm convinced he was out feeding to refuel after chasing for 2 weeks but it was still a 174" deer feeding in the evening daylight during a full moon...I wouldn't count it out.

If it was the only time you could hunt, I'd say go for it...as they say, "can't kill em on the couch." If you could take it later, I'd say the first week of November.
As to the full moon, I have usually had bad luck. I think it's simply lighting. The ones that come out late come out later and the ones that go in early go in that much earlier. That being said, starting right about now anything can happen for the next few weeks.
Good luck!

Ey thanks everyone for the responses. I think even if i go and get skunked, it's still way better than not having gone but left wondering, what if... Besides, enough can't be said about the joy of just being out there. So good luck to all, and especially to all who'll be out tomorrow.

If you do decide to take the day off...you wont be alone. I've already taken it off and plan to sit all day.

I'll be out this evening. I'll have to get a little creative on my stand site with this wind though.

Anytime you can get in woods this time of year do it. Seeking phase of pre rut is set to go off at anytime. Just need one doe to get close to estrous and all hell will break lose in your area. 10-2 is a great time to be in woods during full moon if you can swing it.

Full moon or not I was going this morning as I have a lot going on the next 4 or 5 days.
When I got out of bed at 4:30 my knees says,”Ha,ha.. you’re not going to be walking a half mile (going and coming) up and down a couple hills today”.
I got up made coffee and stayed home. I’ve got an appointment with a bone doctor Monday and hopefully get some relief..
A friend said she got the “rooster shots” and they really helped her. I’m going for that ..

Sorry to hear you were unable to get out. I have a multitude of medical issues that may or may not on any given day, make me ponder hard on whether I can get out, and that stinks. I hope you can get out at your next opportunity.

I simply will not hunt during a full moon. I've never had a bit of success and my time is too limited to spend on less than ideal conditions.

I wish i would've had someone there to take a picture while the moon was in the background after I got to him. Here he is...I actually just picked him up on Sunday from the taxidermist. (not trying to hi-jack this thread)
