Sat on stand for the first time this season, this morning. Wow, what a day. Legal shooting time was 7:25 am, saw a deer at around 7:45, then lost sight of him. Grunted, and he came right by, gave me a 10 yard broadside shot. The Wicked Ridge Invader and the NAP Spitfire did the job. 204 lbs field dressed and nice rack, he's a 10-pointer unless the little stickers at the base count, then he`s 13 points. I`ll post photos as soon as I figure out how.
Edit for clarification: He`s a 12-pointer...

How was the Rut today....? congrats...good one LOL. If you look at the rut predictions Charles Alsheimer had drawn up prior to his death for this season, it doesn`t show seeking even starting until around October 21, chasing beginning around October 25, and actual breeding, (tending), happening until November 1. So, heck, no rut activity even expected yet. Thanks for the congratulations.

Job well done, now ice him down and take it to the butcher with specific instructions to let it hang, make sure the butcher has a meat cooler for hanging.

Job well done, now ice him down and take it to the butcher with specific instructions to let it hang, make sure the butcher has a meat cooler for hanging. Went to Archers in Greenwood. Quite the drive from Putnam County. They said not to worry, they won`t even have the chance to cut that deer before Tuesday or Wednesday, so no worries about being cut in rigor mortis! Obviously I`ll be paranoid about that now forever...
