Yesterday, I had to take one of my hunting days off to fix water line break in the woods. Good news it's fixed, but my best hunting spot is turn up. The leak was 15 yards from the stand. Dug up a channel 2 ft wide and 15 yards long paralleling the stand. Need to clear a few small trees to stop this from happening again.

Deer like the smell of freshly dug earth. Unless there's some other reason, I wouldn't completely give up on that stand.

I just checked the area to make sure it's drying and yes correct, deer prints in the soft clay/mud. Push one just past the area. I planted grass seed yesterday. Should be just in time for November rut. Next year I might clear more and make a micro food plot.
Added on: After this post I went out and cut down a 1ft plus Asian honeysuckle and 3-4" grape vines that blocked my stand the the water line area. Now it's open for a future kill spot.

Reseed the disturbed area with some forage oats or winter wheat seed.

Reseed the disturbed area with some forage oats or winter wheat seed. Good idea. On order. Delivery on Sunday. Hopefully, enough time to germinate and grow. Maybe 2 or 3 weeks until good freeze.

Bad news, went to the dug up area to rack it for tomorrow planting and I see water. It's right at the hose fitting area. They will be back Monday morning. Oh well

Eventually they will get it fixed. I had a similar situation years ago next to my hottest stand, it didn't matter to the deer as I saw tracks on top of tracks on the disturbed dirt. We had timbered just before season a small quarter acre spot for logs for a pole barn. Then dug most of the stumps with a backhoe and seeded with clover.

I leave it uncovered for a few days this time to be sure it's fixed!

We waited about 30 minutes before covering up. Looked good. The pressure is 190 psi that doesn't help.

Any time we've done dirt work there is always a lot deer tracks on it. They have to check it out for some reason.

They have the new 20 yard line dug up and it's not leaking (dry). It's gushing out of the ground and they don't know where. It's still right at the 1st coupling. It's puzzling where this water is coming from. Need to get the big 2 ft bucket excavator and follow upstream to source (leak).

They checked my meter and line and it's not leaking. Somewhere or somehow water is gushing out. The next closest lines are 25 yards away and on the other side of the trench that the water is coming from. Makes no sense. Water bill has been in-line and water pressure is typical. My only guess now is my new mother nature high volume spring. It would fill a large in-ground pool less than 12 hrs. It filled the large dug out hole overnight. Time to build a pond.

There are 6 lines that come up from the bottom road about 2 feet apart. Mine is on the right and splits off about 1/3 way up (100 yards) the other 5 goes up another 200 yards and the one on the left splits off to the my neighbor. The remaining 4 lines run all the way to the top of the ridge and under the road. Two splits left and two right. All lines run just off my property up the hill. I talked to 4 of the 5 and no pressure loss or high water bill. One was not home. If that one is leaking the water is running down and across the hill about 18 yards into my property and popping out of the ground. The water come out about 5 feet from my line. All that digging and work and it's not my line. They are back at it today and going to dig and find the neighbors leak. Note: Our private drive is 7 lots (5 5 acres, 3 acre, and 2 acres). The 2 acre line runs separately for the gang of 6 lines. I'm on the 3 acre lot. This is my little 30 acre hunting hole.

So when it was dug up the first time was it actually leaking from line or did they hit the line digging?

Water Works was there this morning and says I have a very slow leak and he thinks it's tied into a spring. Has chlorine and some metals from a spring. Water leak is stronger than what the meter very slow spin would indicate. You have to watch the meter over time to see that it turned some. So we have to follow the leak up the hill and then to the water line. What a pain.
