Is anyone taking a youth out this weekend for the youth deer season? My son is 10 years and is so excited for the youth season. He earned enough money last year to buy a youth .243 Remington 770 rifle. We have 8 trail cameras on our farm in Switzerland County that we check every week. We have a huge 14 pointer on camera during daylight hours. He usually heads to a 3 acre cornfield that we plant in the spring around 7 pm and is seen leaving the cornfield around 8 am. He is on the camera 3 to 4 days per week. I will let everyone know on Monday if he gets a shot at the 14 pointer.

Good luck. Sounds like it's going to be much cooler in the mornings than has been the last few years.

I mistaked the free hunting days with no license requirements squirrel, rabbit, waterfowl with the deer... They have to have a license to hunt deer. Plans have bottomed out.
Good luck to all, looking forward to some field reports!

Taking the grandson, last year it was in the high 80's and inside the "shoot house" it was probably 95+. It will be nice to have a cool weekend.
Good Luck to all the youth hunters.

My son hasn't been through hunters education yet, that required to get the license?

My son hasn't been through hunters education yet, that required to get the license? No, you can get the youth apprentice license for 3 seasons before hunters ed is mandatory. That’s what I did with my son.

The apprentice license. Can it be used outside of the "youth" dates also? Does it last the entire season- oct-dec?

The apprentice license. Can it be used outside of the "youth" dates also? Does it last the entire season- oct-dec? Yes. It is exactly like the $7 youth combo license except it requires the holder to hunt with a licensed hunter 18 years old or older. Either online or at a retailer make sure you asked for/click on the Youth Combo Apprentice License. I believe it is listed under the Combination Licenses section

Yep; JDUB and I will be out for his last one. 4 different properties. He will be using one of my crossbows for sure Saturday morning; either his 243 or 308 after that and Sunday night either my crossbow or compound (he wants to bring both them). Who knows what will happen! We'll have fun in any case

Son wants to take his .44 but also wants to shoot one with muzzy. Younger youth will use either crossbow or .44
