I found 1/2 dzn scrapes today that weren't there earlier in the week. I put up a camera on the biggest one so we will see what's visiting.

Put a camera over a scrape Wed evening. I had scouted the area on Sunday and saw a few scrapes but only one new rub.

Lol Aren't we being funny? Hahahahahaha..... I wish I could find the graphic I once saw about a "horned" deer. it was a cartoon of a deer without any antlers but with a trumpet style truck horn tied to the top of its head! it said something about..."now that's a horned deer".

Deer and Deer Hunting is saying the rut will be early this year. They say the seeking phase will begin around October 21, with chasing beginning around October 25.

Not sure I’d call that early I’ve found the best weeks to be out is the last week of OCT and first week of NOV for pre rut I`ve seen bucks chasing does the first week of firearms season, so in that context, I feel this would be considered an early rut. It can vary by as much as 2 or 3 weeks, depending on the year. I`ve always felt that the late Charles Alsheimer was on to something with his rut predictions, and I pay attention to them myself.

The bucks chasing does/breeding has more to do with the age health and birth date of the doe IMO This is part of the reason you see a second rut most wild be it deer elk moose all breed about the same time every year so there offspring are born at the best time for survival
Myself I don’t buy into the weather moon phase and things like that yes it may increase or decrease it some but it’s still the same you may just see more of it

That would be awesome, since I'll be out of town in early November. I've never seen a whole lot of rut activity until around Halloween or later though.

No such thing as an early rut mature deer rut at the same time every year, the younger ones breed later hunt the second rut

Wife and I just took a walk at our local nature preserve in the NW part of the state. They have a draw hunt, so I scout regularly in case I get drawn. Anyway, we just watched a decent buck behind a doe with nose on the ground at noon! Strange year for sure.
