Any idea where to get one. Chrysler is on backorder, don't want to go junk yard route. Jasper may be only option but been told by several people that they honor their warranty but only want to pay like half shop rates for warranty work.

And there was a place on Craigslist offering rebuilt Chrysler engines I’ll see if I can find the link.

A junkyard motor isn't always junk.... you just need to find a place with late model wrecked cars!.Shop around!

I buy vehicles and parts regularly. He buys only newer, wrecked vehicles, a lot of times with low miles. So your getting oem, not cheap replacement parts. Plus, he gives a reasonable waranty. Salvage/junk yards are not all the same and not all junk!

I also went the junkyard route when I replaced the engine in my Cherokee. It was kind of a close call for me between scrapping out the 2000 model Jeep, even though everything else but the A/C was still working just fine and I really liked the vehicle. It had 187K on it, and the engine seized up with an apparent spun main bearing.
Found a replacement in a southside Indy junkyard and a good local garage who'd do the swap at a reasonable price, and rolled the dice on it. Glad I did, so far. 3 years and 35k later, only routine maintenance and a cooling system super-flush needed.
Total cost of replacement was just over $1800, so I'm down to about 50 cents a mile for the extended service. That was about my hoped-for target point, so anything from here on gravy, as far as I'm concerned.
Lots of factors to consider. The condition of the vehicle needing the replacement, of course, but also the likely service life of the junkyard replacement versus the reman'd one plus the cost of installation. The outlandish stickers on those new 4x4 pickups begin to look a LITTLE less shocking during the considerations, but not much 8^)

At least with a rebuild I know for the most part what I'm getting and have a good warrant if anything goes wrong. Hate to drop $5000 into a motor replacement and have to do it in another 6-12 months. Never know how well they are taken care of while they were running.

I want to see what my friend has or can find online price wise. He is on the salvage web, so he can check anywhere in the country too.

Ok, I will check with him Monday and repost. I have bought a couple low mile engines with 40-50k mi and had great luck so far. They were with my friendly discount, but still under $1k. I understand the concern tho, you never know for sure what you are getting.

I swap the engines myself and bought a rebuilt 1 once and it only lasted a year before if either cracked the block or blew a head gasket, not sure which, but it was blowing coolant out the exhaust bad, from the 2 middle cylinders on the right bank (V8). I won't buy them that way anymore,I'll go to a junk yard or buy a vehicle for parts from a private person and then scrap what's left of the vehicle when I'm done with it.
