I have a red dot on my muzzle loader and have killed quite a few deer with it out to 100 yards. I shoot it with one eye just like my scoped shotgun.

I was thinking about using my Mossberg 500 with a twenty inch smooth bore barrel and a red dot scope for deer since I already have them. I was wondering if anybody else has or was useing something similar and what were your experiences or opinions. I am hoping for since I have not patterned any foster slugs with this combination yet for better than pie plate accuracy at around 75 yards. I got a mossberg 500 from my uncle he gave it to me with a red dot. It works like a dream. I say if it works for you and you're accurate with it I say go for it.

I do and I love it. With nearsightedness, it takes care of the sight/target blurriness issue. They are fast, too. Get the dot on and BANG. I had two bucks come into a call a few years back. The first one turned off but the other one came up fast. I was on the ground, he ran up, stopped and made me. I had to shoot fast. There was no squinting at crosshairs or lining up iron sights ( not a problem for everyone but one for me ) I put the dot on and that was that. He went maybe ten yards. Then the bigger one returned and stared at his fallen buddy! Oh well.

for shotgunners with red dots attached... What brand and model are you using? I have an old EO Tech Holosight that was made for Bushnell back in 1995 or 1996, and a 552 that is sitting in a box. I also have an Aimpoint Micro T-1 that isn't currently mounted on anything yet.

Always used Bushnell's. From turkey guns to deer slug guns. Have several buddies that I talked into switching. None of us ever had an issue. I have two turkey guns and had them on for years with zero issues.
