Anyone seeing an abnormal amount of fawns without their momma's? Do alot of driving for work and seeing decent size fawns, still with spots, but no momma around. Not places where mom is out of sight, they are definitely by themselves. You can tell they've been alone awhile cause they aren't acting like curious fawns, they bail quick when they see you. All look really healthy, just wondering what happened to Mom. Lawrence county so I'd wager road hit. Seeing several full grown acting dumb too. Walking down middle of the road middle day. Not bothering to move when you drive up, just continue down middle of the road.

Been my experience that if a doe is killed with fawn that they quickly pair up with other deer. I suppose if doe was killed early after birth that the survival rate of the newborns wouldn't be very high. I see lone fawns almost daily at my farm. I don't believe it is that uncommon this time of year to see fawns venturing out on their own some. The doe is probably not that far away in most cases.

Maybe does are starting to learn from a lot of human moms who let their children run wild while they are in the house boozing, doping, Facebooking, etc.

Does will bed up a couple hundreds yards sometimes. Seem it many times. Fawns will be in my backyard and the doe is across the street behind my neighbors house.
