Talk about lucky. I am behind on firewood right now. May barely have enough if we had a super mild winter, but only about half of what we normally have on hand. Been scraping some together here and there.
So, got a phone call from the neighbor today. His boy has a big pile of cherry and hickory he cut, but his job is taking him away, so they want us to reap the rewards and have it!!! Woohoo! Its not 300yds behind my woodshed, and I can drive right to it down a lane. YES!

Firewood out here is a big deal. If you are lucky enough to find any actual hardwood it is like GOLD. There is pine/spruce/fir to be had but if you have to buy it it is $$$$$. Sounds like you got a great solid from your friends.

Some say it's #1 hardwood due it's easy to grow. Those days are gone for now. Just on my 3 acres I lost 9 out of 12 and the last 3 are dying.

When I was in Indy the city had a "dump lot" on the west side where they would bring all of the trees they had to cut down. All you had to do was come with a saw and you could have all you wanted. It was sporadic but I once got 4 cords in 2 days (including an orange osage that almost destroyed my saw ).
