I think it might be sunlight based on where it looks like the sun is hitting off to the right in the picture.

I think its sun. The plants in front of it are lit up. Yeah but why is his front left leg normal color? To me it looks like it's running through a patch of sun shining through the leaves. The leaves directly to the left of it are lit up. I think most piebalds still have black hooves. The back left hoof on this one looks white from the sun glare. That's just my opinion. I could be wrong.
