I've killed my last few birds with a mossberg youth model 20 gauge with Hevi 13 #7s and a pure gold choke. So much lighter to carry and lower recoil. I doubt I will ever go back to a 12 gauge.

I have five 20ga's to choose from, an American Arms SBS, IC&Mod, a Remington 1100, fixed Mod, a Charles Daly O/U with Browning chokes, an Iver Johnson Champion, fixed Mod and a Pedersoli black powder SBS, IC&Mod. I am leaning toward the Pedersoli.........robin

I only have 20 gauges. I have a Remington 11-48 fixed modified barrel, a Remington 870 with a gobble stopper choke, and an iverjohnson single shot with a fixed full barrel. I've taken every turkey with the 870 and either # 4 or 5 Remington turkey shells.

This year I got a Mossberg 500 Grand Slam and put a UTG circle dot sight on it. First shotgun I actually enjoy shooting. Killed two long beards with it this year. Plan on putting a Carlson's Long Beard choke on it and dial in the Winchester Long Beard shells.

You might want to look into Apex Ammo for some 20 shells.

This is my first year to use a 20 gauge shotgun to hunt turkeys. The gun is a Remington M870 equipped with a “turkey” choke tube made by H. S. Strut. The barrel is a standard factory barrel with only the original bead front sight for aiming purposes. Set the bead on the barrel rib and the shot pattern will center on where the center of the bead is pointed. The barrel length (including choke tube) is about 26-1/4 inches, which is about 2-1/2 inches shorter than my 12 gauge M870 turkey gun. This makes it “handier” than my 12 gauge, especially in a pop-up blind. And, it shoots a tight, uniform pattern with my Winchester factory Long Beard ammo (3-inch Magnum with 1-1/4 ounces of #6 copper-plated lead shot). I patterned it on a target at 40 yards.
On May 10, 2018 a 15-pound “jake” with a 4-1/2 inch beard fell to my trusty 20 gauge at a distance of about 35 yards. It was nice not to get knocked off my seat shooting a 3 or 3-1/2 inch magnum with 2 ounces of shot and still easily getting a deadly pattern up to 40 yards or a little more.
