Got a truck in on trade am looking to get the 4wd working the light came on indicating it was activated but then it would not disengage also I don’t think it actually engaged at all in first place. I don’t know a lot about the truck except that supposedly it can be made to switch into 4wd by manipulating the vacuum line. But I also know that it will be worth a little more if the 4x4 is working which is basically my only goal. I’ve worked on a lot of vehicles but only recently even started owning 4 wheel drives. And all the 4wd I’ve owned so far were manual 4wd. This one is a push button.

No mechanic but a buddy picked up a nonworking 4x4 years ago and just replaced vac lines that were cracked. Made good $ of that repair

So I messed with it very little today and the switch flipped which turned the light on and then the light stays on in every switch position. The light won’t disengage but it doesn’t feel like it’s in 4wd

I have an '02 F150. There are 2 vacuum solenoids on the RF firewall. The vacuum lines run down to the axle. One is engaged, and other disengaged. My lines were bad at a connection on the rf frame rail. A Ford mechanic friend said that was a common place for failure.
Google is your friend btw.

I had a 98 F 150 and that son of a gun rusted away on me. Never seen anything like it. I take car of my trucks too. Waxed 2 times a year always regular maint. Inside was spotless. Traded it in 4 years ago. I went through 3 starters in 3 months. They all rusted. Mech. said he had never seen anything like it.

Had a problem with a 97 leaking fluid from the transfer case at the rear drive shaft seal and causing me some headaches. Was a cheap and easy fix though.
