For 20-25yd. deer hunting would you rather have a 538 gr arrow at 201fps or a 445 gr arrow at 229fps? Or does it really matter?

At that distance what difference would it make? If you are hunting at a known distance see whats point of impact between the two yardages with one pin. Besides there roughly 3# of kenitic energy between the 2. But having saying all that, I would take the faster arrow.

I suppose the faster of the two, on the off chance a 30 yard shot might present itself, and the somewhat flatter trajectory could come into play. If the only shot could be 20-25 yards, then I'd pick the slower one, as it could help quiet the bow (much more important than speed at that range). But as bowpro said, at 20-25 yards there would be hardly any practical difference, and both setups would zip right through the deer with a quality broadhead.

I'd say faster, just because there would be less time for the deer to react.

I have the heavier arrows now and I'm quite pleased with they way they group up; to get the lighter arrows I'd have to purchase them. Weight and speed are estimated on the lighter arrows; but I think the numbers would be close. The numbers on the heavier arrows are actual. I'm thinking it's not worth making a change, but I was curious to get some others input.

28 FPS difference at 20 yards - You will not have much of a POI change. Maybe an inch or two.
Both are pass through arrows at their speed..

From my paintball playing days, I have been shot at by paint travelling both speeds. You aren't going to get out of the way of either one at that range. Both would go through a deer's vitals like a lazer beam (especially with a muzzy.)
KE of scenario 1 = 48.28 KE of scenario 2 = 51.83

If that is the case faster + more KE = easy choice. If you are happy with your bow setup and it shoots good groups, keep it the way it is. No need to drop more money on lighter arrows, your set up is just fine.

I don't think the difference is enough to justify spending the money on new arrows. Your current set-up will work fine. Lighter arrows have an advantage, but it really is insignificant. If you're really in the mood to spend the money, have at it.
