I just learned that a former co-worker is in some deep doo doo in the garbage state of NJ. He recently retired and took his wife on a road trip. They ended up in Atlantic City. After leaving he realized that he left his pistol in the hotel dresser drawer. Not knowing any better, his wife called to notify management as he drove back to get his gun. He was met by hotel security and the local authorities. He was promptly cuffed and stuffed into the local jail for four nights. His wife was hysterical and had a panic attack that nearly required an ambulance.
The information that I received (second-hand) is that he received a felony for the gun and another for having it loaded with hollow point ammo. He was told that staying out of prison would cost a minimum of $10k in legal fees, plus fines and probation. He will also receive a lifetime ban from all NJ casinos. I don't know all of this to be true, just what I was told.
This is a 67 year old grandparent that absolutely knew no better and had no ill intent. Guess what he is most upset about? Not being able to volunteer at his grand kids' school due to the felonies.
If your are thinking about traveling to a politically and morally corrupt liberal state that is financially bankrupt, leave your sidearm at home. My friend is not the first and, unfortunately, won't be the last one this happens to.

Yeah, NJ is a no-no when it comes to traveling with a gun.

Don't know if it is true or not, but I heard of a guy getting in trouble for having hollow point bullets in NJ. He was flying on a hunting trip, the plane was re-routed to NJ and bad weather meant he had to pick up his checked bags and spend the night in a hotel, and catch the next flight in the morning. Hunting ammo for his hunting handgun. What the heck can you do in a situation like that?

The first smart thing you do is not leave you gun behind when checking out of the Hotel..... it goes down hill from there quick!

Seems like the burden of knowledge is on the concealed carry permit holder. It is gross negligence to not look that up before you travel somewhere and plan to carry. New Jersey does suck though.

"The NJSP Firearms Unit considers Hornady Critical Defense, Federal EFMJ, and Corbon Powerball, NOT to be hollowpoints. The law states nothing about dimensions."
So, it looks like I am O.K.

You are correct. But, I am referring to a guy that couldn't figure that out without someone else's help and, in reality, I'm sure the thought never crossed his mind. I was his supervisor and mandated smart phones for the department. He almost retired early over that. He would be the first one to open the door for you at church or mow grass for an elderly person. Just a great man that made an unfortunate mistake.

Just a great man that made an unfortunate mistake. Sounds like he shouldn't be carrying in the first place. I get it he's nice and a great person, but that's the problem with a lot of people who "just want to get my concealed carry card". They don't think about the laws of the places they might think to carry, and naively think that carrying makes the world a safer place, so I should carry anywhere, without a single thought. Concealed carry REQUIRES the holder to be informed and aware, not just a fine person. Also, bringing the gun into the casino hotel after the Las Vegas shooting is just plain stupid. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes, even if you're a nice guy.

Will this cause his Indiana permit to be revoked?

Will this cause his Indiana permit to be revoked? I don't know for sure, but if he gets a felony conviction, I would expect so.

By looking at those rounds, I would guess anything that doesnt look like a conventional hollow point is probably good to go.
