So I'm kind of new to the whole paperless/online bill pay thing. So I thought instead of tracking down the duke bill I thought I would try this. Well the day of reckoning has arrived, after 15 minutes of trying to remember the username and password which now days you have at least 35 different user names and passwords to remember I was finally allowed to login. So I go to pay my bill and here is where my top blew off they wanted a $1.50 "CONVENIENCE FEE" to proceed with the transaction. I begrudgingly paid it but then I got to think, is it a convenience fee for me or for them.
So after I sent them a little nasty gram I will make them go ahead and risk paper cuts and then filling away my paper check from here on out. Absolutely ludicrous what I have to do to pay their exorbitant electric bill.
With that being said I will go quiet so I can fume in peace.

It's a good thing you sent them that gram. I'm betting they will read it and send it up the chain of command and once it gets into the top dogs hands they'll change things. That or laugh about it and say, what exactly are you going to do, go without electricity? Be awesome if companies actually cared but it's a shame that all it did was make you feel somewhat better.

I generally don't do online bill pay in that specific company's system.
My bank has a service in their online system where you can add the company name, address, account number, etc. for all your recurring bills. Then you just log into your bank account, select which company the bill is for, enter the amount, and hit send.
For some companies, I think they send it electronically, but if not, it generates a cashier's check kind of deal and sends it in the mail. I've found it to be a pretty big time saver.

REMC isn't cheap either. I would not want to live in their area but IPL is definitely cheaper

Direct payment is the only way to go....I done this to all bills and have never looked back.
Took me a few months of convincing about Direct deposit of pay check but that is a no brainier now also.

On the Duke bill..just set it to link to your checking account and its free to pay online. For Vectren..set it up for auto pay and it's free also. I have zero issues doing it this way.

This is exactly what I did when I had both companies services. Never paid a fee that way. My water bill now has like a $3 charge if I pay it online, which I don’t. Going to set up auto pay after this months bill and I don’t have to worry about it again. They have been getting paper checks from me every month.

If I can't set up automatic payment, the bill is certain to be paid late.

Well like you all said I would get an e-mail back, however that apology I've been holding my breath for hasn't come yet, hopefully it comes soon as things are starting to go dark.

I agree. The whole point is that it's supposed to be easier and save money. It would for sure save THEM money. So they con you out of doing it the old way and then sneak in a fee after you struggle through their ponderous online process? BOOOooooooooo!!!!

REMC isn't cheap either. I would not want to live in their area but IPL is definitely cheaper I'm the second to the end of the line for IPL. My next door neighbor is the last house, then the next house down got screwed and is on REMC.
