I am thinking about carrying my Glock 23. I'm not sure I've convinced myself that it will do the job on whitetails. I have some 180 gr Hornady XTP's and would probably top that on 5.2 grains of Bullseye that I have in stock since I've loaded the 180 gr flat points and like that recipe for my Glock. I also have some Berry's 180 gr but they are Target HP's and I think the Hornady will mushroom a bit more. I would limit my shots to something less than 15 yards. Anybody have some first hand knowledge here? advice? Opinions?

Barrel is 4.02 I believe, I carry my Glock 23 in deer season and finished my buck off with it last year. The hornadys did a good job I thought, I wouldn't hesitate to use it at under 20 yards

IF I were to attempt it I'm keeping shots 20 yards and under and definitely picking right angles...be pickier than with a bow personally. WILL it kill? Sure. WOULD I do it...I don't think so.

I carry ball ammo. I want as much penetration as possible. I leave the hollow points for the human targets to lesson the possibility of a pass through.

I can't believe they passed the law allowing them but not a 45acp,just my opinion.

I think Glock's website states that the barrel length of a Gen 4 is 4.01". Do you guys think a CO would measure the length with a tape measure or would the manufacturer's information be good enough?

Perhaps I just dont know the difference .... what is ball ammo and how is it different than a fmj round? It's a full lead bullet and doesn't have the copper jacket. Basically the range rounds we used with the department because the hollow point PD rounds are so expensive.

Well, I decided to load 50 rounds of each. One set is the 180 grain Hornady XTP's and the other set is the Berry's 180 grain Target HP's. The COAL on each is 1.120" I got to thinking about firstwd comment on penetration and that made me wonder if I might like the Berry's better?! It's legal as a hollow point and I really like how the bullet set the final crimp. I figure I'll put both on paper and test the accuracy. Here are the Hornady's:

I know the duty ammo will kill a deer, seen several actually, but never had a pass through and most were shot at 10 feet or less.

with so many better caliber and pistol/rifle/archery options available, why hunt with this one which has very limited range and accuracy?

My go to rifle is my 300 Blackout! Your comment is the reason I posted my question here. And with many of the responses, I am much more inclined To simply carry the Glock 23 as a put down pistol.
