Anyone used the kits where you just use the skull cap and epoxy and paint it. I have the head off my buck for a euro mount, I did a euro with my last buck using his skill, but doing it again doesnt sound fun at all.
Im worried though that if I shortcut and do the kit Ill never be happy with it.

I have one done this way from a set of shed antlers. I really like the kits. After having a couple with the actual skull and they being so brittle. I don't think I would use actual skull again.

I like the looks of the real skull a lot better. That's how I do all of my bucks. Plus I take on a few euro mounts every season. I've got 2 cooking right now and just finished skinning out 2 more skulls. The more you do the easier it gets. You learn some tricks along the way.

Greetings Skin them, boil them, either scrape or carefully use a high pressure hose. Or leave buried or hung up a tree and let nature do it. Cut it as desired or leave it intact. Wrap the skull in cotton wool keeping it off the antlers and soak the cotton wool with peroxide. That is how I have done an awful lot over the years. Regards Billy.

I've done 15 or so European mounts, not hard to do either boil them or power wash.

I think you will be glad you kept the skull. I've seen some of those plastic mounts and it was pretty easy to tell it was fake.
If you bury it make sure to secure it or cover it up with something. Dogs or coyotes might drag it off.

Get some 20 mule team borax soap and add it to the boiling water. It will turn the flesh and brains etc. to a jelly that cleans right of with ease.

I trim off as much of the fat off the skull that I can before cooking. I also remove the brains with my home made brain blaster. It keeps the water cleaner and is a lot faster than trying to remove the brains after it's cooked.

DO NOT BLEACH!!!!! bleach will eat the.skull and it will get brittle and fall apart. I have taken them.and put on hood of truck in sun for couple hrs and had it work magic. If you bury them they.are.hard.to get WHITE again

What is this brain blaster? I hate removing brains It's a garden hose valve reduced down to 1/4" copper tubing. You insert the tubing into the opening at the back of the skull and open the valve. All the brains plop right out from the water pressure. It takes like 5 seconds. Move the tube around to make sure you get them all. Turn the valve off before you remove it from the skull to stay dry. It's much easier than doing it after they brains have been cooked. When I'm cooking mine I dip the greasy stuff off the surface of the water every 10 minutes or so. It keeps it from getting the antlers nasty. After a while the grease is gone and the surface of the water stays clean the rest of the time. I cook 2 at a time on a turkey frier.

I was going to post a picture of mine but my Dad borrowed it. Here is a video showing how well they work. My copper tubing is shorter than the one in the video. I have mine bent into a curving 90 degree shape. www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvMhSX4ojyY

2017 buck found his permanent home with 2014 buck earlier this week. 2014 bucks antlers are extremely white due to a mishap with a pressure washer towards the bases but was nearly that white to begin with.
