It's a non issue to me. If you need 10 rounds to kill a deer, you better find another sport. I have one box of twenty round 30-06 that has 11 left in it. Those missing 9 rounds accounted for 8 Wyoming mule deer. I never carry more than 6 shells when hunting anyway. What happens if you see 10 coyotes followed by one record buck? Id be out of ammo when the buck came through. It would more likely be the record buck followed by 10 coyotes but if your a good hunter you can wait until two of the Yotes get next to each other & take them with one shot. LOL Then you would have one shot for the buck. It doesn't bother me I hunt with an AR pistol. I can legally hang a 100 round drum off the bottom pistol. Not that I would because I still have half of the twenty round box of hunting ammo I bought 3 seasons ago.

Looks like we have a answer..... hunt-indiana.com/post/523374/thread"The number of rounds was restricted under the statute for hunting deer with a rifle. The restriction of the statute does not apply to handguns or shotguns. However, the individual property may have a restriction."

I always carried 7 rounds. Superstitious I guess. But now I carry 10. Enough and more for the season. Coyotes or deer if I shoot all 10 rounds I have had a heck of a season.

I posed the question to the Ask the CO, because I simply don't like a half-loaded magazine. I also wouldn't like to wind up at my treestand to find that I had lost my magazine (and furthermore all of my available ammo on the walk in). Do I "need" 20 rounds? Absolutely not, but then again, I don't "need" to carry two spare mags every day for my 1911, but I do.
