Well I felt naked today without my pocket knife. I lost it somewhere in Cincinnati and in need of another one.
Mine was my grandfathers and it was sharpened so much that the blade could cut you when folded. It had a Phillips and flat screwdriver, Bottle opener, awl, and can opener. It had a high carbon blade which you cold taste when eating a tomato or apple.
I used it for everything. Cleaning and cutting fingernails. It's been in several deer before. Heck I even used it to take my antenna of my truck because I locked the keys in the truck when I was hunting.
What are good knives that you would put up to these challenges. And what recommendationa do yall have. I'm trying to keep it under a hundred bucks. Also I'm not a fan of swiss army knifes.

I am weak for a good knife. I have some popular, some high end, some low end and all points in between.
I used to carry a leatherman super tool but when I got a job that did not allow me to carry it any more I quit and never have got back in the habit of it. I like them for fit, form and functionality.
My every day carry is a slim lock blade Kershaw. Picked it up at a flea market more than 10 yrs ago $5 new in box. It was a steal! When I have misplaced that I have a small case folder I like to carry. For high carbon easy to sharpen I really like the small Old Timer muskrat knives.
I like stainless blades any more. I have been able to sharpen them, just takes more time but they hold an edge much longer and easy to keep nice. The high carbon and chrome vanadium blades all oxidize on me.

I've also got a weakness for a good knife.
Kershaw is a very good brand as long as you get one that was made in the USA. The older ones were all made here and were good quality. They have a cheap China line available now. I've also had good luck with Buck and Gerber knives. I carried a Buck Goliath in high school from 10th grade until I graduated. That would get a kid arrested now. I carried a Gerber EZ-Out every day for over 10 years until I was finishing off a deer that was struck by a car. It kicked my hand so hard it broke the handle. I carry a Browning pocket assist open knife now. I'm not sure if I like it or not. It's supposed to open when you pull it out of your pocket by the finger ring. I've cut myself twice and also cut my pocket open with it. All 3 instances were user error.
If I had to narrow it down to one brand I would say to look for an older USA made Kershaw on ebay. They seem very solidly built.

Look and see if you can find an identical knife to what you lost on e-bay!

You won't be disappointed in a Kershaw. The one I carry every day I found. It was stomped flush in the mud at a parking lot that we ride our horses out of. Looked down and wondered what was shiny. Dug it up and it's been the best find I have ever had.

I've always been partial to Case knives. I have a Rosewood handled medium Stockman that is always in my pocket.

My wife calls me a knife wh#$e I have 4 or 5 Gerbers (including an ez out that is a good little knife), a Spyderco ( agift that doesn't get much use), a couple of old timers,4 Moras (which I think are by FAR the best value knives I have come a crossed but are all fixed blades and then 3 Benchmades that were all issued to me in the Army. One is a seat belt/strap cutter (also works as a gut hook), then a big fixed blade (Arvensis) that is up to any type of hard work and finally this auto opener www.benchmade.com/automatic-knives/auto-stryker-family.html It goes everywhere I do and does everything I ask of it. It is durable, holds an edge and functions flawlessly.

I used to always carry a Kershaw, but now I carry a folding utility knife, mainly because I can quickly replace a blade when one gets dull / breaks. Plus, they make quick work when gutting a deer!
Whatever you do, don't buy an SOG slimjim. I purchased one 5 or so years ago because I liked how thin it was; you wouldn't know it was there and never felt it in your pocket...that is until it unfolded IN MY POCKET! I thought it was operator error, but its done it a few times now. Needless to say it stays in the my catch-all box at home now.
