Thank the Good Lord that the infamous "rifles on public ground" screw-up only involved public ground. I'll admit that part of me wishes that they had waited until next year.
I just happened to think about how hellish my job would be if the law had involved private land.
I guard the WM electronics department at night, and since we are always understaffed I answer the phone, mix paint, dip fish, and coordinate everything you can imagine with my radio. One other thing I do is respond to Sporting Goods calls and write Hunting/fishing licenses.
I still get customers that insist that a Firearms tag allows them to take an antlerless deer. "I did it last year," they say. Many folks are still fairly confused about the checking and temporary transport procedures.
I can only imagine the confusion this mess will cause. "I heard you can't use rifles at all!" "No, just the big ones! You can use PCR's on private land!" "No, just on public land!" etc, etc ad nauseam.
What a mess. I'm going to pull what's left of my hair out!
What do you all think about the emergency rule?

Several folks on FaceBook have posted that they can now use ALL rifles on public ground..
Somewhere down the road that will probably happen but not now.

A legislator made a comment that insinuated it was pretty much a test run of all rifles on private ground. I think he was replying to a post you may have made. I'm not sure what to think about them changing it like was done. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they did, but what else can they change less than a month before season?

Some will disagree because they believe it needed to happen but I don't think lawmakers should be deciding what weapons should be used to kill deer. My musing on the chaos is personally I think it is pretty funny that this screw up happened and they had to issue an emergency order. I would think it was even funnier if the DNR had realized sooner what happened and put out a statement that confirmed the law that disallowed PCRs on public land and told the voters to talk to their representatives about it.

Agree 110% on "I don't think lawmakers should be deciding what weapons should be used to kill deer."
Folks who don't know what they are doing, shouldn't be doing it..
