Would like to discuss a reference I had heard from an old timer cattle farmer from kentucky (who has quite the wall full of racks (some of his boys deer, but we are talking over 40 racks atleast). He told me that anytime you see a majority of the cattle laying down there is a good possibilities that the deer are bedded as well.
Has anyone else ever heard of this or experienced - noticed, or anything relative?

I've heard about it. It makes sense to me, but I don't have any proof yet.

We have raised cattle all my life, still have about 80 head. If the cattle aren't feeding and laying up the deer are too for the most part. Cattle feed heavily just before a front moves in same as deer. So yes to some degree you can figure what the deer are doing by watching what the cattle are doing.
Of course with the rut all bets are off.

I heard it and when I heard it I lived with about 30 head of cattle out my back door I would look out in the pasture and if they weren’t up running around most times I wouldn’t go hunting

I've heard of it too from someone in Kentucky but haven't noticed if it's true because I don't know of anybody around here with cattle to see.

I hunt across the fence from a cow pasture. For early and late season, I agree. Fur hot lady season, all bets are off

Have cattle between the house and the woods. I have observed it for years and would say there is some truth to it.

There's always 1-2 standing out of the bunch if they are down. Last couple days on my way to work 2 hours away in bloomfield, I'd see some bedded down and then miles down the road they all be standing and so on...
