Seeing a lot of them now. Look like volleyballs all over the woods. Are they prime about now or past? I have never tried them.

They should be clean and white, the skin should be a little rubbery and when cut open they should be pure white with the texture of a marshmallow.

The ones I have been seeing are huge also. I will look closer at them and see if they are all white inside.

They come up every year in our yard.
I slice them as thin as I can and then bread and fry them the same as morels; can't hardly tell the difference.
We had a bunch of them this year.

I saw some huge puff balls while tracking a doe Sunday. Biggest I've ever seen. They were past the edible stage.

Biggest ones I have ever saw were several years ago at Glendale fwa. Two were as big as basketballs and three more between six and eight inch diameter. True giant puffballs!!
