Spotted a doe in my back yard at 9:30 this morning. She was acting weird - like something had her agitated. But there's no harvesting going on right now and she was far from any human activity. One of the things she did was turned completely around where she was standing then walked off into the woods.
Has rut started?

No. It’s nearly the same time every year and this isn’t it. Maybe more activity as far as runs and scrapes, but no breeding yet.

Sometimes you get a young buck or two who thinks it's time this early, but for me it has always been the first week or two of November. Last year i started seeing good rutting activity around November 4th and that went right up through the opening weekend of gun season. I haven't even hunted yet and probably won't until maybe next weekend. I hunt smaller properties and find i do more harm then good by hunting them early in the season.

I had a nice 8pt chasing some does in my field last night. He stayed on one for awhile. Seems early but it happened.

Put two more stands up today. Saw several active scrapes and lots of bucks on the trail cameras. Most were after dark, but a few very early in the morning.

The rut has started!...for spike bucks.lol Ya know, if you're one to only hunt the easy times when the old wise deer go all sex crazed and run around like drunk teenagers, then you are absolutely right. It's not time for you to be in the woods. Not everyone is like that.

Checked out one of my prime stands to put a cam near a tree where there is always a primary scrape. Already opened with 4 large ,fresh scrapes. Put cam on them and will be in that stand tonight.

I found a few scrapes on my way out of the woods today. It's pretty thick around both of them but maybe when the leaves are gone I can hunt them. I'm sure they are being used at night but need to move cam to see exactly what's going on.

The other sapling had a rub on it.

I put up cattle pannels around some white pines and cedar trees that I don't want pesky deer to damage any more than they did last year. No rubs or scrapes seen but I normally don't see many scrapes behind the house

I have fencing around my apple trees, I just dug up an oak and a maple from the edge of the woods and moved them into the yard so no $$ lost if they're destroyed.
