I got off work last night and I knew I needed to be sitting on the bean field that had just been cut. I was sitting in a chair with my crossbow. About 7 o'clock a small buck comes out and feeds away from me. Later two does. The bigger one is a feeding right to me but facing me. I had the scope on her for about 10 minutes. She finally turns and is about 25 yards. A chip shot I'm thinking. I hit the trigger and I see the lighted knock go much further to the left than I wanted looking like guts. I come home wait two hours and start looking about 9:30. I was able to track her about 100 yards and it appeared she had been gone for a while. She was down the hill a little bit and I knew there was no way I was getting her out of there. I checked her in online quartered her out and brought her out in a garbage bag. I'm getting too old for this at 46. That was a tough night cutting a deer up on the ground and carrying it out. Plus it was hot and I was sweating like crazy and my glasses were fogging up. You can see in the picture the shot was not perfect by any means.

Congrats on the doe and the recovery. I'm always a bit concerned about hunting in these kinds of temperatures but you handled it well.

Sorry to all those that had to read that before the grammer corrections. I originally posted by phone and voice texting.

glad you found her. I plan to do some of the field quartering this year too. Some spots I just don't want to drag a deer out of.
Might be time to check the zero on your crossbow!

Been there! I can't drag anything up these hills; thank God for the quad and 400' of rope. I figure one day I won't have the quad and I'll do what you did. A pain but better than dragging the whole thing up a 45 degree slope.
way to stick with it.

Nice doe. Good job with the tracking and follow up on a less than perfect shot. And good job doing the hard work to save the meat.

Your the man 10point ! This reads like the story of a true sportsman. It was a doe to boot. Plus you are willing to admit you fudged the shot instead of finding other hints to blame

Good going teammate, make sure you post it in the "Check In" thread so it'll count in the Contest. My 1st deer was an 8 point buck back in the 90s and down in Kentucky in all those hills, took me 4 1/2 hours to drag that one out and I was in my 30s,no way I could do that now,now ALL my deer regardless of size or location get drug out with the ATV,like you I'm getting to old for that stuff. Again, congrats and good eating.

Nice work getting the job done. I have been there a few times and now I wait for cooker weather before I hit the woods.

Great job!
I plan to do exactly that at two spots I hunt. Hard enough to get me in and out.

Good job ! I got one this evening but my story was a little more pleasant. Had my buddy John Deere to help out and she was skinned and in the cooler 90 minutes after recovery.
