The box says 325 gr bullet at 1860 fps. Has anyone used these? How did they shoot accuracy wise, terminal performance? Thanks.

Sounds impressive. I've only used the Hornady SST. I'll keep an eye on this thread to see what kind of feed back you get

I think model of shotgun / rifling come into play. I shoot a winchester 1300 with rifled barrel and have found better groups with slower fps through it. I have shot sst, and the Hornady lights but i found winchester BRI sabots and lightfields group better in my gun. Anything Under 1500fps. 2 3/4 inch shells.

As far as terminal performance, anything that weight and moving at that kind of velocity is big medicine for a grizzly bear, let alone a whitetail. I've not shot those, but I've killed deer and boar with the Hornady SST, Remington Accutips, and more than any other the "cheap" Winchester sabot slugs. Usually bang-flop with a big hole straight through.
As far as accuracy goes you'd just have to shoot a few groups out of your gun, but that gets expensive quick.

I'm shooting today so will soon know if the gun likes them. I'm shooting a Marlin 512, and used Hornady SSTs last year. Accuracy was pretty good. Bought the American Whitetails because they were on sale and cheaper than the SSTs. We'll see.

Shotgun slugs are miserable to shoot (recoil, expensive, and there are wide variations in accuracy. Something that shoots good in one gun won't shoot good in another. Sometimes takes quite a bit of trial and effort to figure out what your gun groups best with. Once I get the combination right, I buy up a whole bunch of that exact same ammo and never switch.

Steiny has got it right. Sabot ammo (at least in my experience with Hornady SST) is like .22 long rifle ammo. Once you find a combination that works, buy a bunch of that same lot number and hoard it like it is gold.
When the SST's first came out I learned that a certain lot number shot great in my shotgun, but other lot numbers wouldn't do any better than a 3" group at 100 yds.

Not impressed with the SST slugs. I went back to Lightfields.
Don't shoot those any more since the .243 is legal.

Not impressed with the SST slugs. I went back to Lightfields. Don't shoot those any more since the .243 is legal. I went from slugs to a Savage Muzzleloader. Now the .243 I use in Wi can be used here. I still use the slug gun for Park hunts. Other than the Park hunts, I hunt private property.

I don't hunt with sabot slugs anymore since I switched to a .300 AAC Blackout pistol. But back when I was shooting a Mossberg 500 with a cantilevered scoped rifled slug barrel I found the Remington Core-Lokt Ultra Sabot slugs to shoot the best out of my gun. That is a 385gr bonded hollow point slug going 1900 ft. per. sec delivering 1741 ft.lbs. of energy at 200 yds. They don't make these anymore. Zeroed at 150 yds it would give me about a 6" drop at 200 yds. I bought as much as I could paying as much as $28 a box, I still have a bunch maybe someday my kids will want to hunt deer like the old days. LOL I thought at the time that is what I wanted, the woods I hunt is thick I rarely get a shot much past 100 yds. so I realized I was wasting my money on the ability to shoot distance when it will never be needed. I haven't used a shotgun for deer in over 5 years & I don't believe I'll go back.

The Hornady American Whitetail slugs shot very well. I needed only a very minor scope adjustment, and they stack up into one ragged hole at 50 yds. That gun is all set, and is what I'll use in MI. I have the 358 Hoosier for IN, and it shot like it always does. Only the ML to dust off now.
