Found this tonight. I call it a cauliflower mushroom. Some call it hen of the woods. This is ONE mushroom. When I cut it I missed the second big piece so there are two pieces. Will eat high on the hog now!

This small bowel is the stem. Most people throw it away because it is tough. If you dehydrate it and then put it thru a blender/foodprocesser to make a powder it can be used by the spoon full to flavor soups, stews or anything else you want a mushroom flavor in. It will last a long time I also dry the peddles or freeze them. The dried peddles can be used the same as the stem ( ie powdered) or rehydrated and fryed or used whole. The frozen ones I usually thaw and fry like spring motels The other bowel is what i got from the mushroom

I have found that the stems are not that good for later use, as a matter of fact they have little or no flavor when used as a cooking ingredient.
This week the Honey mushrooms have been popping everywhere,my friend and I have picked several pounds each.

I looked quickly at the usual spots for the hens yesterday after the rain the previous night. Found one about 2#.

This is my first year looking for hens and chickens. Has the season already passed on these? I'm in south central Indiana. I did find a Lion's Mane this past weekend. Didn't realize they were edible. Going back for it this weekend.

I can't speak for your area but up here in Laporte Co. I haven't seen any as of yet, with all the rain we got and the cooler temps I would say it won't be long.

I found a few today. Picked 3, left 3 more because they were a bit old.
