I didn't even bother reading the article. I don't know if old does are the smartest. I do know old does are extremely hard to trick and shoot, especially with a bow.
I can't count the number of times a group of does has come to my stand and the biggest looks right at me and does the head bob, snort...even when I'm downwind. The big doe looks right at me while the other younger ones are oblivious to me.

No body who lives in the woods and is some body else definition of dinner gets old by being dumb.
So what?
If Daniel E. Schmidt Editor-in-Chief wants to mount Mrs. Cervid B. Einstein on the wall what do I care. Who is he trying to convince it's some big accomplishment? Me or himself? Like the poster above, I don't even care enough if it's true or what he's got to say about to even click on the link.

I'm not sure they are as smart as a mature buck but smart anyway. I have watched old nannies train other deer how not to get killed. I can't pass one up if I get a chance.

Oh yeah I believe it. I have always said that what makes bucks seem so smart is the fact that they are comparatively rare because most of them get shot, they tend to be more nocturnal, and since they are more actively persecuted only the most paranoid tend to survive. All else being equal I think those old bags are the slickest critters alive in the woods.
