library.municode.com/in/indianapolis_-_marion_county/codes/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=TITIIIPUHEWE_CH531AN_ARTIVCATRI would move out of the area before I gave in to these idiotic laws. Hopefully this link works. Basically, I put thousands of dollars and spent all last summer building the kennel up to what I had thought met code. The problem is the definition of a temperature controlled facility. It must keep the kennel maintained between 40 and 80 degrees. The woman who started the charge to the tribe into a county ordinance may have meant well due to all the pit bulls chained up in the city but it had farther reaching defects. I have my kennels attached to my carport and they have heat up in the winter but I am not going to the expense to air condition the kennels. I love my dogs with All my heart but there comes a point of logic and sensible reason.

I understand your concerns but honestly I wouldn't do anything. #1 they have to catch you and unless someone is laying for you IMPD isn't going to come knocking and #2 first offense is only $25. Just lay low and keep the dog. You both deserve to be happy.
HatchetJack
P.S. Glad I moved to another county last year.

Let them fine me and they will have their day in court. My dog stays in the house when I'm home, and also when I'm gone for a while, but there are times when she has to be in the outside kennel, which is attached to an outbuilding. There's probably a 40'x40' area that is inside the fence and that is hers to run around in. She doesn't bark when I'm gone - I put a bark collar on her when she was younger, and she now knows the rules. There's fresh water for her, and in the winter there is heat for her too.

Have you made any decisions on this yet? I'm still good to go.
I got my old dog's MT dog house, and I got one of those electric things for him to lay on in the winter. If he don't chew up the furniture and pee on it I might even let him in on the rug at the back door at night depending on how things are going by the time it gets cold.
How are his ears? My brother's dog like that had something going on with his ears all the time, I don't remember what.

I'm glad things worked out with you and Jack and I hope Duke brings him several years of happiness. You appear to be happy with the decision and that is all that matters, but I still hate to see you give up something you love so dearly over a few ignorant liberals deciding what is best for you.

I'd go straight down to the dog pound with my thermometer, better yet me lazer heat gun and start in on them. Then I'd head straight to the police dogs, if I didn't get what I wanted I'd follow them around in the cars just waiting to put them on the spot and I'd research every single person in the city government and bring them all up on charges along with the idiots at the humane society.

Had an awesome visit today with HighCotton, we busted a few clay talked clays and dog stuff most of the day. Weather was fantastic. Duke is perfect far as I'm concerned, I bribed him a little with some fat off my steak this evening but I think he likes me best out of family so far. My German's not too good yet. He's either say'n "You don't have a clue." or "Yer awesome!"

Lmao just kidding glad to hear it's starting off on the right foot and I hope you have many great days ahead with him!

I'll just simply say, "What a fit!" Jack and his wife took to Duke as quickly as Duke took to them! And on top of that, I got some lessons in shooting clays that I wish I'd had some 30 years ago. Very cool! And, from someone who had been coached by Dink Kingen himself. I never knew of Mr. Kingen and now that I've read a little about his trap shooting background and his World War II experience, I'm even more impressed. Jack...it was a great day! And you know I'll be back for a few more lessons! It's gonna take me awhile to break some of these decades old habits! It was cool to see Duke instantly make himself at home (after he found the nearest mudhole)! Jack n Duke:

My hat goes off to you Jack for taking in a senior dog especially under these emotional circumstances. There aren't many folks who would do such a kind thing for both the dog and it's owner,I hope the the three of you enjoy the new found friendship.

My hat goes off to you Jack for taking in a senior dog especially under these emotional circumstances. There aren't many folks who would do such a kind thing for both the dog and it's owner,I hope the the three of you enjoy the new found friendship. It's my pleasure. I'm the lucky one so far. We are just easing in to things. It's a little different for Duke when ya got to make yer own choice where ya want to sleep. At first it was in the drive way where he could see me/us through the window. When I went to bed I left the kitchen lights on so he could figure it's not much different. I got up about 3 or 4 to look an he'd moved in to the garage. So today I put the dog house where he was laying so he can watch the "Dog TV". He went in and right back out again but it's confirmed, he fits in there just dandy. Then we started learning "mow the grass" this afternoon. It was fun looking for mice in the barn and then following the tractor around, he wanted to cross the creek over to the road side a couple times. That makes me nervous but he came right back on command and a little encouragement by just turning the tractor to mow back up toward the house. I'm not even close to done and he's learned that fool on the machine is just going around in circles and gone up to the house to lay under the back porch where every other dog has always made their favorite hang out. So I came in to count that a successful learning session. I'll break up the mowing in to 3 or 4 goes so he sees it enough to be an old hand at the mowing thing and feel he's seen it all before.

LOL, it didn't take more than a few minutes and he KNEW he'd seen this round and round thing and it is BORING. Right back up to the house.
I went around another 20-30 minutes out in the sun and didn't see him come back so I stopped nearest the house and left the tractor running to sneak up and see what prank Duke was pulling on me and he was testing out his new dog house all on his own.
Winning!

I got out this apartment jail for dogs I've had in the barn for years. Washed it all out, put the rug in it from the dog house and put a rug on top all bungee down for shade. Figured I'd use this for a road trip to the vet for all the flea, tick, weighing in stuff kind of thing. I got an appointment at 3 and I had this all put back together and tied in the truck ready an hour ago. Duke seemed cool with it all. I came back in the house to fix my own lunch and finish the news I was watching. When I look back out there he's up in the truck, just hanging out in the jail cell like he can't wait to get out of here. Kind of hurting MY FEELINGS now and it's not that easy to do. All the places he can hang out or run around and he's laying in jail because he WANTS to? YES the door is open. And the tail gate.

I have an airline dog crate in the laundry room with the door open, and Kate sleeps in it half the time all on her own.
