The wife & I started regular workouts at the gym about a year ago. At 69 I have no visions of becoming a body builder type. In fact, during my initial talk with a trainer, he asked me what my goals were. I told him that I wanted to look like the guy who portrayed "The Hulk" on TV. We determined that being painted green was the closest that I could get to that.
However, I've had my bow out a couple of times in the last few days, and I am very pleasantly surprised with the ease of coming to full draw. Now, I'm only drawing a little over 50#, but I remember prior years of really straining to pull that weight.
Not bragging, just encouraging my fellow "seasoned" outdoorsmen towards perhaps a healthier lifestyle. I'm gonna do my part and trust the Lord to keep this body in good repairs for as long as I am here.

Yep, regular excercise goes a long way in feeling good everyday. A work buddy and I started out strong at the New Year at a new local Planet Fitness after work, then a string of events has slowed us down recently. Just got to stay at it anyway you can. Nutrition is 90% of the battle.

My "exercise" is working at Habitat for Humanity... 4 days a week..
This last week it was ACUSA - Archery Camp USA cocking crossbows..
98 kids and each kid shot the crossbow anywhere from 15 to 20 times. (1,470 to 1,960 )
THAT is a lot of cocking! There was four of us doing it and I have to say I did stay up with the 50 year old and the two 20 somethings.. At the end of the day I could REALLY tell it.
BTW - The 3 Wicked Ridge Rangers and 1 Warrior held up great!

Woody, your just lucky you werent working with all Excals! Lol.
Also, genetics are the most important ingredient in looking like Arnold. If you arent wired for it, it aint happening. Been there and done that. I had a good foundation, tall, broad shoulders and chest, avg waist. Trained for two solid years with proper nutrition. Got strong and looked good, but nowhere near where the magazines said I would be in 6 shorts weeks (lol), or where I wanted to be. I have lost 63# one time, and 51# another, but managed to return to where I was before. You just have to keep moving forward!

Strength training is one of the most important things you can do as you age. Preserves bone density and stops age related muscle atrophy.
Obviously, you need to go slow and build.

I've been lifting for the last 16 years. Do I look like Arnold? Hardly, but I am in pretty good shape and actually enjoy doing it.
Father time is gonna get us all, but I'm trying to stay a step or two ahead of him...LOL.

Two or three years ago I was told I had spinal stenosis in my neck and ruptured disks and the whole smear. I have back trouble since I was 20 years old but these just debilitating neck pain and loss of strength in my arm was just indescribable. Shots and MRIs and doctors and all that, and what they came up with is "don't look up".
A year before I'd been bicycling 10-15 miles a day. Now I "can't look up"? You can't ride a bicycle and not "look up" unless you want to hit every thing.
So I didn't ride.
About a month ago I got tired of the thing taking up space and dragged it out of the garage, headed to the abyss most people call a barn. Just stood on the pedal and coasted down the hill, then funny thing I coasted on out to the road. Stopped, looked, dang. Can't believe those still have air in them.
Road to the RR tracks and back. Doubled it every day for a week and been riding about 10 - 13 miles a day for a month now. No neck pain or paralysis so far. Even better blood sugars are normal for the first time in years and cut back my Metformin by 75% so far. Been back riding for about 3 - 4 weeks so far.
Doctors don't know EVERY THING.

Slow and steady wins the race. Doctors are only human too. They don't know what we feel inside, only what we tell them. Here's to all of us getting back on that bike and making progress to better our lives!

Woody, your just lucky you werent working with all Excals! Lol. ......... You've got that right! When I started crossbowing I had an Excalibur Exomag...baddest crossbow on the planet at that time. It was 185 pounds and of course no breakover.. A year after I got it they came out with the Exomax..I bugged Bill Troubridge about it and he sent me the front end of an Exomax and I switched mine out - 200 pound pull . It was a bear to cock. The next year I got on the TenPoint bandwagon and haven't looked back. I traded the Exomag/Exomax off for a Ruger .44 carbine...
