The morning started with my dad and I going to a central point behind our house in the middle of our property to listen for gobbles. About 625 we heard a faint gobble. It was far on the north end of our property. Dad said he didn't want to chase it and that he would go to the blind and I could go lone wolf. I ran through the pasture and got within 200 yards of where I though got he was roosted. I stopped. Heard him again so I closed the distance. Got to the top of the pasture and he hammered off. Thought to myself that he might have seen me put the decoy out, he was so close. From there I got set up on a tree with the decoy about 20 yards from me. I called and he didn't answer for a minute. He kept gobbling though. So I knew he heard me. I have a few more soft calls and he answered. Then nothing for a few minutes. I didn't call anymore. All at once I heard him fly down and he was close. 1 minute later he was in my lap going right to the decoy. He wouldn't come out of strut for anything. Finally he looped the decoy and pulled his head up for a split second and I put him down. Awesome morning. Awesome hunt. Almost got dad one later once I got back to the blind on the far south end. Man I was tired.
